Pues no habéis recibido el espíritu de esclavitud para estar otra vez en temor, sino que habéis recibido el espíritu de adopción, por el cual clamamos: ¡Abba, Padre! ROMANOS 8:15 (RV60)
Cuando un esclavo es liberado de la cautividad, a menudo le es difícil saber qué hacer con su libertad. De hecho, muchos esclavos en tiempos bíblicos elegían seguir siendo siervos para sus amos, ya que no sentían que su hogar pudiera ser cualquier otro lugar. Es probable que no consideremos la esclavitud del mismo modo que los israelitas, pero sí que podemos comprender la sensación de impotencia ante el pecado, las emociones o incluso en nuestras relaciones con los demás.
Cuando Jesús derrotó a la muerte en la cruz, introdujo una forma de que nosotros pudiéramos ser libres de nuestra anterior vida de cautividad al pecado y la muerte. Ya no tenemos por qué temer a aquella antigua vida; tenemos una nueva en la que vivimos por el Espíritu. Somos hijos de Dios. Cuando realmente comprendemos nuestra libertad, podemos empezar a deshacernos de aquellas áreas de nuestra vida que todavía nos atenazan.
Oración:
Abba Padre, gracias por liberarme del poder del pecado y la oscuridad. Gracias porque ahora pertenezco a tu familia y puedo vivir protegida en tu amor. Ayúdame a reconocer las áreas en mi vida que me impiden vivir en esta libertad y dame la fuerza necesaria para soltarlas.
No Longer Captive
You did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” ROMANS 8:15 NKJV
When a slave is released from captivity it is often hard for them to know what to do with their freedom. In fact, many slaves, in Biblical times, would choose to remain servants (bondservants) to their masters, not knowing how to belong elsewhere. We probably don’t relate to slavery the way the Israelites did, but we can understand feeling powerless over sin, emotions, or even in relationships.
When Jesus defeated death on the cross, he introduced a way for us to be free from our former lives of captivity to sin and death. We no longer have to fear that old life; we have a new life that is living by the Spirit. We are children of God. When we truly understand our freedom, we can begin to let go of the areas of our lives that hold us back.
Prayer:
Abba Father, thank you for freeing me from the power of sin and darkness. Thank you that I now belong to your family and I can live protected in your love. Help me to recognize the areas in my life that keep me from living in this freedom, and give me the strength to let them go.
