Nuestra disposición de amar a los demás no debe depender de la capacidad que tengan de devolvernos amor. Algunas personas nunca estarán satisfechas con lo que hagamos por ellas. Otras no se sentirán dignas de nuestro cuidado, sin importar lo mucho que las animemos o incluyamos en nuestra vida. Otras más incluso pueden rechazarnos con sus acciones mientras nos expresan amor con sus palabras.
Amar significa arriesgarnos a la posibilidad de ser rechazados. No obstante, el objetivo al amar no es provocar una respuesta de parte de la otra persona, sino ser un ejemplo vivo del amor de Cristo. Por tanto, cuidemos de otros ministrándolos y apoyándolos en una manera que sea significativa para ellos, y no de acuerdo a cómo querríamos que nos retribuyeran.
No obstante, si usted encuentra que alguien no lo acepta a pesar de sus mejores esfuerzos, entonces pregúntese: «¿Está Dios pidiéndome realmente que le muestre amor a esta persona?». Si es así, entonces asegúrese de que Jesús acepta sus esfuerzos, aunque la persona en cuestión no lo haga, ya que eso es lo único que realmente importa. Jesús lo recompensará enviándole alguien que reciba el amor que usted le prodiga, y que le retribuya su amor en la manera y momentos que más lo necesite.

Jesús, quiero ser tu discípulo. Ayúdame a amar a los demás con tu sabiduría y gracia sacrificial. Amén.
A SACRIFICE OF LOVE
“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” JOHN 13:35
Your willingness to love others must never depend on their ability to give love back to you. Some people will never be satisfied with what you do for them. Others will never feel worthy of your care, no matter how much you encourage them or include them in your life. People may even reject you by their actions while saying that they love you with their words.
To love means risking the possibility of being rejected. However, the goal in loving is not to evoke a response from another person but to be a living example of Christ’s love. Therefore, care for others by ministering to them—supporting them in a manner that is meaningful to them rather than how you would want to be ministered to.
However, if you find someone will not accept you despite your best efforts, then ask yourself, “Is God really asking me to show love to this person?” If so, then be assured that Jesus accepts your efforts, even if they don’t—and that’s all that really matters. He will reward you by sending you someone who can receive your love and who will love you in return in the ways and in the moments you need it most.

Jesus, I want to be Your disciple. Help me love others with Your wisdom and sacrificial grace. Amen.
