Pedro era un líder natural y tenía una visión establecida de lo que el papel requería. Sin embargo, los acontecimientos de la última semana de Cristo en la tierra cambiaron la perspectiva de Pedro respecto a la autoridad terrenal. Sin duda, ver al Salvador rodear su cintura con una toalla y lavar los pies de los discípulos tuvo que ser chocante e impactante. De hecho, cuando Cristo se acercó a Pedro con la vasija de agua, el discípulo retrocedió. Pero Jesús se mantuvo firme y dijo: «Si no te lavo, no tienes parte conmigo» (Juan 13:8).
Jesús estaba enseñando cómo sería aceptada la humanidad por Dios y qué significaría servir al Señor. Ahora sabemos que, en primer lugar, Él nos limpia —nos salva— para que podamos conocerlo. Pero en segundo lugar, Él mostró cómo ser sus representantes a través del ministerio. Se necesita humildad para permitir que Dios trabaje a través de ti a su manera y con su poder, para servir a los demás. Pero como dijo Jesús a los discípulos: «Si alguien desea ser el primero, será el último de todos y el servidor de todos» (Marcos 9:35). La única manera de que desarrolles un espíritu de siervo es poner a Dios en primer lugar, a los demás en segundo y a ti mismo en último. Haz lo que Él ha modelado y sirve de la manera que Él ordena.

Jesús, enséñame a servir a los demás como lo harías tú. Amén.
An Example of Service
“I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.”
JOHN 13:15
Peter was a natural leader, and he had an established view of what the role required. However, the events of Christ’s last week on earth changed Peter’s perspective concerning earthly authority. Certainly, watching the Savior wrap a towel around His waist and wash the disciples’ feet had to be shocking and impactful. In fact, when Christ approached Peter with the basin of water, the disciple recoiled. But Jesus was firm, saying, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me” (John 13:8).
Jesus was teaching how humanity would be accepted by God and what serving the Lord would mean. We now know that He first cleanses—saves—us so that we may know Him. But second, He demonstrated how to represent Him to others through ministry. It takes humility to allow God to work through you in His way and power in order to serve others. But as Jesus said to the disciples, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all” (Mark 9:35). The only way you will develop a servant’s spirit is to put God first, others second, and yourself last. Do as He’s modeled and serve in the manner He commands.
