Estoy segura de que muchos de nosotros, en algún momento de nuestras vidas, hemos sentido miedo, generalmente a lo desconocido o a alguien que podría lastimarnos. También sabemos que, como hijos de Dios, no deberíamos temer, pues Él vela por nuestro bienestar.
Es algo parecido a cuando eres niño y tienes una pesadilla, lo primero que haces es recurrir a tus padres, ya sea gritando o corriendo a su cama; sólo estar con ellos, te da una tranquilidad inexplicable. ¡Imagínate!, si esos sentimientos de paz te pueden dar tus papás, ¿qué puedes sentir al estar cerca de nuestro Padre celestial?
Esa cercanía que todos deseamos tener con Dios, la podemos obtener si vivimos con temor de Él, porque el Señor vela por los que le temen, por aquellos que confían en su amor. Es así como esta palabra que la asociamos en la vida cotidiana con algo malo, se convierte en necesaria, cuando comprendemos que en el caso particular de la lectura bíblica, “temeré a nuestro Señor” no se refiere al miedo en sentido de cobardía, sino más bien, al respeto y honra que debemos tener a nuestro Padre. Cuando tememos a Dios, Él nos defiende de todo mal.
Entonces ¿si nosotros respetamos y honramos a Dios, recibimos su protección?.
La respuesta es afirmativa y lo podemos encontrar a lo largo de la Biblia, como por ejemplo en el Salmo 34: 7 donde dice:
Salmos 34:7
“pues el ángel del Señor es un guardián; rodea y defiende a todos los que le temen”.
Jesucristo es ese guardián que protege a los que le temen. Así como los ejércitos solían armar un campamento de protección de primera línea para proteger al resto, así también hay alguien más fuerte, más grande y poderoso que ha decidido proteger tu vida, tu familia, tus intereses, todo lo tuyo, si le temes. Debemos confiar ciegamente en nuestro Dios, no debemos dejarnos invadir por ese miedo carente de fe, sino entender que “sin duda la salvación de Dios está cerca de los que le temen“ (Salmo 85: 9).
¿Qué pasa cuando no vivimos con temor de Dios?, la repuesta de todos será seguramente la misma, ¡dolor!. Dios “rescata de la muerte a los que le temen y los mantiene con vida en tiempos de hambre” (Sal. 33: 18 – 19), entonces el solo vivir con el fin de agradar a Dios y no ofenderle al pecar, evitará consecuencias negativas para nuestras vidas.
“El que vive con temor y humildad a Dios tiene como remuneración riquezas, honra y vida” (Proverbios 22: 4). Vivir en el temor del Señor nos libra de pecar, evadimos las consecuencias de los actos malos y nos permite vivir en paz, conduciéndonos a tener una larga vida, bienestar y honor.
Oración:
Padre Celestial, caminamos bajo el temor Reverente al Señor en nuestro corazón, porque creemos que cuando te tememos, no nos condenamos, sino que somos revestidos con el poder de tu sabiduría, y que a través de ella podemos vencer cualquier obstáculo y ser más que vencedores por medio de tu Santo Espíritu, en el nombre de Jesús, Amén.
Fear the Lord!
I am sure that many of us, at some point in our lives, have felt fear, usually of the unknown or of someone who could hurt us. We also know that, as children of God, we should not fear, as He watches over our well-being.
It is something similar to when you are a child and you have a nightmare, the first thing you do is turn to your parents, either screaming or running to their bed; just being with them gives you an inexplicable peace of mind. Imagine! If your parents can give you those feelings of peace, what can you feel when you are close to our heavenly Father?
We can obtain that closeness that we all wish to have with God if we live in fear of Him, because the Lord watches over those who fear Him, over those who trust in His love. This is how this word that we associate in everyday life with something bad, becomes necessary, when we understand that in the particular case of the biblical reading, “I will fear our Lord” does not refer to fear in the sense of cowardice, but rather, to the respect and honor that we should have our Father. When we fear God, He defends us from all evil.
So if we respect and honor God, do we receive protection from him?
The answer is yes and we can find it throughout the Bible, as for example in Psalm 34: 7 where it says:

“For the angel of the Lord is a guardian; he surrounds and defends all those who fear him ”.
Jesus Christ is that guardian who protects those who fear him. Just as armies used to set up a front-line protection camp to protect the rest, so there is also someone stronger, bigger and more powerful who has decided to protect your life, your family, your interests, everything of yours, if you fear Him. We must blindly trust in our God, we must not allow ourselves to be invaded by that fear lacking faith, but understand that “without a doubt the salvation of God is near those who fear him” (Psalm 85: 9).
What happens when we do not live in fear of God? Everyone’s response will surely be the same, pain! God “rescues those who fear him from death and keeps them alive in times of famine” (Ps. 33: 18-19), so just living in order to please God and not offend him by sinning will avoid negative consequences for our lives.
“He who lives in fear and humility of God has wealth, honor, and life as his reward” (Proverbs 22: 4). Living in the fear of the Lord frees us from sinning, we avoid the consequences of bad acts and allows us to live in peace, leading us to have a long life, well-being and honor.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we walk under the Reverent fear of the Lord in our hearts, because we believe that when we fear you, we do not condemn ourselves, but rather we are clothed with the power of your wisdom, and that through it we can overcome any obstacle and be more than overcomers through your Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
