Saúl quería ser un rey bueno y piadoso que gobernara con justicia y siguiera los caminos de Dios. Sin embargo, sus motivaciones no siempre eran puras. En un momento dado, el Señor le dijo que destruyera por completo a los amalecitas en la batalla. Ellos habían perseguido despiadadamente a Israel después del éxodo, y Dios nunca olvidó el mal que cometieron contra su pueblo. Así que Saúl cumplió la orden del Señor y se dirigió a la batalla. Sin embargo, una vez que el polvo se asentó, decidió perdonar al rey amalecita, a sus hombres más fuertes y a lo mejor de sus ovejas y bueyes. Saúl intentó en vano convencer al profeta Samuel de que había obedecido a Dios al guardar lo mejor del botín como sacrificio. Pero no fue la obediencia lo que motivó a Saúl; fue el orgullo, y eso le costó su trono.
La obediencia parcial no es obediencia; es desobediencia, y nunca hay excusa para ello. Cualquiera que sea la meta que el Señor ha puesto delante de ti, Él tiene un método para que lo alcances. Pídele que te dé su sabiduría para que puedas alcanzar la meta de manera perfecta, completa y, sobre todo, con obediencia.

Señor Jesús, muéstrame qué hacer para que pueda honrarte fielmente tanto con tus propósitos como con tus métodos. Amén.
His Goals and Methods
“Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD?”

Saul wanted to be a good, godly king who ruled fairly and followed God’s ways. However, his motives weren’t always pure. At one point, the Lord told him to utterly destroy the Amalekites in battle. They had ruthlessly persecuted Israel after the Exodus, and God never forgot the evil they committed against His people. So Saul complied with the Lord’s command and headed into battle. However, once the dust settled, he decided to spare the Amalekite king, his strongest fighting men, and the best of his sheep and oxen. Saul tried in vain to convince the prophet Samuel that he had obeyed God by saving the best of the spoils as a sacrifice. But it was not obedience that motivated Saul; it was pride, and that cost him his throne.
Partial obedience is not obedience; it is disobedience, and there is never an excuse for it. Whatever goal the Lord has placed before you, He has a method in mind for you to follow in achieving it. Ask Him to give you His wisdom so that you may accomplish the goal perfectly, completely, and—most important—obediently.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, show me what to do so that I may faithfully honor You in both Your goals and Your methods. Amen.
