En las noticias vemos a un ejército que ha perdido la guerra y que, después, se ha rendido a su enemigo. El fugitivo finalmente se ha entregado a la policía tras una larga persecución. Quizá te sea más cercana la experiencia de alguien que se ha rendido ante la adicción. Así que, ante todos estos ejemplos, ¿tenemos que sentirnos bien al rendirnos ante Dios? Ponernos en una situación vulnerable puede inspirarnos temor. ¿Acaso «rendirse» no significa ser derrotado, doblegarse?
Pues sí; significaría esto si Dios fuera nuestro enemigo. Pero como él está con nosotros y no contra nosotros, rendirse significa una cosa completamente distinta. Significa «libertad». Rendirse también significa abandonarnos a Dios y dejar de resistirnos a él, aceptando sus planes y su voluntad perfecta para nuestras vidas. En cuanto le entregamos nuestros corazones, ya no tenemos que seguir luchando.
Oración:
Padre, ayúdame a recordar que tus planes son perfectos y que tu voluntad para mí es la paz. Rindo a ti mi corazón por completo y dejo de luchar para seguir adelante. Y te confío mi corazón porque eres bueno.
Surrender Your Heart
O my son, give me your heart. May your eyes take delight in following my ways. PROVERBS 23:26
Watching the news we learn the losing army in a war has surrendered to their enemy. The fugitive has finally surrendered to police after a long standoff. Perhaps, closer to home, someone you know has surrendered to addiction. So how, given all these examples, are we supposed to feel good about surrendering to God? Allowing ourselves to be vulnerable can be scary. Doesn’t surrender mean defeat, giving up?
It would… if God were our enemy. But because he is for us and not against us, surrender means something else altogether. It means freedom. Surrender also means abandoning ourselves to God and no longer resisting him—accepting his plans and his perfect will for our lives. We don’t have to strive any more once we give him our hearts.
Prayer:
Father, help me remember that your plans are perfect, and that your will for me is peace. I surrender my whole heart to you and end the struggle of holding on. I trust you with my heart because you are good.
