Cuando Jesús, el esperadísimo Mesías, reveló su deidad a su familia, a sus discípulos y a las multitudes, todos esperaban un poderoso Dios que pudiera librarlos de sus opresores y establecer un reino eterno. Pero la persona que tenían delante era un siervo humilde que comía con los recaudadores de impuestos y cuyos pies limpió una prostituta con sus lágrimas. Jesús no era exactamente quien creían que iba a ser.
¡Era incluso mejor! Jesús llegó para traer salvación a aquellos que estaban ahogándose en un mar de pecado y enfermedad; a los marginados que necesitaban una redención santa; a las personas a las que los líderes religiosos habían considerado indignas pero cuyos corazones ansiaban una restauración de verdad. Él llegó para redimir a su pueblo, pero no del modo en el que ellos habían esperado.
Oración:
Jesús, tú me has librado de las ataduras del pecado y de la opresión a través de tu muerte y resurrección. ¡Te alabo por mi libertad! Santo Espíritu, descansa sobre mí y dame la valentía para compartir con los demás estas buenas noticias.
Redeemed and Free
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. ISAIAH 61:1-2 ESV
When Jesus, the long awaited Messiah, revealed his deity to his family, his disciples, and the crowds, they were expecting a mighty king who would deliver them from their oppressors and establish his everlasting kingdom. What they got was a humble servant who dined with tax collectors and whose feet were cleansed by the tears of a prostitute. Jesus wasn’t exactly what they thought he would be.
He was better! He came to bring salvation to those who were drowning in a sea of sin and sickness; those who were cast out and in need of holy redemption; those whom the religious leaders had deemed unworthy but whose hearts longed for true restoration. He came to redeem his people, but not in the way they expected.
Prayer:
Jesus, you delivered me from the bonds of sin and oppression through your death and resurrection. I praise you for my freedom! Holy Spirit, rest upon me and give me boldness to speak to others about this good news.
