A veces puede parecer que lo más importante en la escuela intermedia y secundaria es ser popular. Las chicas populares parecen tenerlo todo: belleza, novios, el mejor lugar para almorzar y, por supuesto, toda la atención. Es una sociedad secreta en la que todos queremos estar. Viene con privilegios y estatus especiales.
Pero, ¿es la popularidad tan importante para Dios? Jesús no era popular. De hecho, la Biblia dice: “fue despreciado y desechado entre los hombres” (Isaías 53:3). No ocupaba el mejor asiento en las mesas en las que cenaba, ni era selectivo en cuanto a con quién salía. Tenía amigos en muchos círculos diferentes. De hecho, siempre estaba exhortando a la gente a ocupar el lugar más bajo en el tótem y poner a los demás en primer lugar. Era la completa contradicción de la popularidad. Entonces, ¿qué podemos aprender de él? No deberíamos buscar popularidad.
Es una tarea agotadora y, en última instancia, insatisfactoria. Ese no es el objetivo de esta vida. Y después de la secundaria, descubrirás que ya ni siquiera le importa a nadie. En lugar de centrarse en cómo puede tener una mejor reputación entre sus pares, concéntrese en cómo puede servir mejor a sus pares. Cuando haga eso, descubrirá que estará mucho más satisfecho con su rango en la jerarquía.

Popularity

Sometimes it can feel like the most important thing in middle school, and high school is to be popular. The popular girls seem to have everything—beauty, boyfriends, the best lunch spot, and of course, all the attention. It’s a secret soci- ety we all want to be in on. It comes with special privileges and status.
But is popularity so important to God? Jesus was not popular. In fact, the Bible says, “[h]e was despised and rejected by mankind” (Isaiah 53:3). He did not take the best seat at the tables he dined at, nor was he selective in who he hung out with. He had friends in many different circles. In fact, he was always exhorting people to take the lowest place on the totem pole and to put others first. He was the com- plete contradiction of popularity.
So, what can we learn from him? We shouldn’t seek popularity.
It is an exhausting and ultimately unful- filling endeavor. It’s not the point of this life. And after high school, you’ll find it doesn’t even matter to anyone anymore.
Instead of focusing on how you can have a better standing among your peers, focus on how you can better serve your peers. When you do that, you may find you’ll be so much more content with your rank in the hierarchy.
