Huye de todo lo que estimule las pasiones juveniles. En cambio, sigue la vida recta, la fidelidad, el amor y la paz. Disfruta del compañerismo de los que invocan al Señor con un corazón puro.

¿A que se refería Pablo cuando escribió acerca de las “pasiones juveniles” en el versículo 22?
Él se refería a los fuertes deseos incontrolados que son característicos de los jóvenes y personas inmaduras, pero que pueden continuar durante toda la vida cuando no se tiene la dirección del Espíritu Santo. En su primera epístola, Juan escribió: “Porque todo lo que hay en el mundo, los deseos de la carne, los deseos de los ojos y la vanagloria de la vida, no proviene del Padre, sino del mundo” (1 Jn 2.16).
Estas características se relacionan con el egoísmo, la codicia, la ambición y el placer, a través de las cuales satanás ha influenciado a los incrédulos en todas partes.
Todos estos anhelos van en contra de la voluntad de Dios para nosotros pues no provienen de Él. Los anhelos incontrolados de placer, entretenimiento, belleza, prominencia, posesiones, riqueza o popularidad están enfocados en uno mismo y nos impulsan a tratar de obtener lo que queremos. La manera de vencer es huir de ellos y comenzar a buscar los deseos del Señor para nuestra vida, como se revelan en su Palabra.
En la actualidad, el mundo es cada vez más persistente con su corriente interminable de tentaciones pecaminosas e inmundas. Además, la tecnología moderna facilita que satisfagamos nuestros deseos con tan sólo dar un toque ligero en nuestro teléfono o pulsar el botón en nuestra computadora. Con tantas distracciones diversas que atienden nuestros deseos, el mundo está cada vez más presente, tentándonos las veinticuatro horas del día. ¿Qué se supone que debemos hacer?
¡Debemos huir! huir significa escapar, alejarse de algo. No significa luchar con algo, más bien huir de algo. La Biblia no dice que debemos resistir las pasiones con una fe firme; no, Pablo utiliza el verbo “huir”, una palabra definitiva y activa cuando se trata de cómo enfrentar a las pasiones, y Romanos 13:14 dice: “no proveáis para la carne a fin de satisfacer sus concupiscencias”. No podemos permitirnos permanecer pasivos o ser complacientes a los malos deseos. Es probable que ahora más que nunca en la historia de la humanidad, tengamos que huir, en otras palabras, alejarnos de todos los malos deseos.
Ceder a las concupiscencias de nuestra carne o satisfacerlas, nos daña. Dios nos creó como vasos para contenerle y expresarle, no obstante, Satanás quiere dañar nuestros vasos (espiritualmente, mentalmente, emocionalmente y físicamente) por medio de los malos deseos de nuestra carne. Pablo habló esta palabra a los creyentes tesalonicenses en
1 Tesalonicenses 4:4-5:
“Que cada uno de vosotros sepa poseer su propio vaso en santificación y honor; no en pasión de concupiscencia, como los gentiles que no conocen a Dios”.
Queda claro que, ningún creyente es inmune a la pasión de concupiscencia. No importa cuánto tiempo tengamos de ser salvos o cuanta experiencia tengamos, la palabra sabía que el apóstol Pablo habló respecto a huir aplica a cada creyente, pues las concupiscencias representan un peligro constante para todos nosotros. La manera de no ser dañados y contaminados por las concupiscencias sino poseer nuestro propio vaso en santificación y honor es ¡huir de ellas!
Oración:
Amado Rey, cada vez son más las tentaciones que se nos presenta en el caminar de cada día y las trampas del enemigo para hacernos caer en tentación, pero tu eres nuestra luz y nuestro maestro, por eso aplicamos tu consejo de huir ante las tentaciones para cuidar nuestras vidas y protegernos del mal. Somos tus vasos y hacemos un voto de santidad apartándonos del pecado, escogiendo tu camino que nos lleva a la vida eterna, en el nombre de Jesús ¡Amén!
Youth Passions
“Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.”
2 Timothy 2:22
What did Paul mean when he wrote about “youthful passions” in verse 22?
He was referring to the strong uncontrolled desires that are characteristic of the youth and immature people, but that can continue throughout life when you do not have the direction of the Holy Spirit. In his first letter, John wrote, “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.” (1 John 2:16)
These characteristics relate to selfishness, greed, ambition, and pleasure, through which Satan has influenced unbelievers everywhere.
All these longings go against God’s will for us because they do not come from Him. Uncontrolled longings for pleasure, entertainment, beauty, prominence, possessions, wealth, or popularity are self-focused and drive us to try to get what we want. The way to overcome is to flee from them and begin to seek the Lord’s desires for our lives, as revealed in His Word.
In reality, the world is increasingly persistent with its endless stream of sinful and filthy temptations. In addition, modern technology makes it easier for us to satisfy our desires by just a light touch on our phone or pressing the button on our computer. With so many diverse distractions attending to our desires, the world is increasingly present, tempting us twenty-four hours a day. What are we supposed to do?
“To flee!” means to escape, to run away from something. It doesn’t mean struggling with something, rather running away from something. The Bible does not say that we are to resist passions with firm faith; No, Paul uses the verb “to flee,” a definite and active word when it comes to how to face passions, and Romans 13:14 says, “make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” We cannot afford to remain passive or be complacent to evil desires. It is likely that now more than ever in human history, we will have to flee, in other words, away from all evil desires.
Giving in to the lusts of our flesh or satisfying them harms us. God created us as vessels to contain and express Him, yet Satan wants to damage our vessels (spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically) through the evil desires of our flesh. Paul spoke this word to the Thessalonian believers in 1 Thessalonians 4:4-5:
“that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;”
It is clear that no believer is immune to the passion of concupiscence. No matter how long we have to be saved or how much experience we have, the wise word that the apostle Paul spoke about fleeing applies to every believer, for lust represents a constant danger to all of us. The way not to be harmed and contaminated by concupiscences but to possess our own vessel in sanctification and honor is to flee from them!
Prayer:
Beloved King, every time there are more temptations that are presented to us in the walk of each day and the traps of the enemy to make us fall into temptation, but You are our light and our teacher, and that is why we apply Your advice to flee before temptations to take care of our lives and protect ourselves from evil. We are Your vessels and we make a vow of holiness by turning away from sin, choosing your path that leads us to eternal life, in the name of Jesus. Amen!
