El ayuno no es solo un ejercicio religioso más. De hecho, si lee Isaías 58 con atención, verás que el capítulo en realidad comienza con Dios reprendiendo al pueblo que estaba ayunando, porque su forma de ayuno era meramente una bana muestra externa para demostrar su religiosidad. De su hipocresía.
Dios dijo:
¿Es tal el ayuno que yo escogí, que de día aflija el hombre su alma, que incline su cabeza como junco, y haga cama de cilicio y de ceniza? ¿Llamaréis esto ayuno, y día agradable a Jehová?
Isaías 58:5
¡Dios veía ese ayuno religioso tan solo como una rutina más!.
El ayuno debe romper la rutina, y no convertirse en otra representación sin pasión, ese ayuno estaba hueco por dentro, como los juncos que crecen en las riberas de los ríos, que se inclinan bajo su propio peso, parecido en apariencia a alguien que se inclina con vacía humildad.
¡Dios está buscando lo verdadero!.
Si no tenemos cuidado, cada uno de nosotros puede llegar a endurecerse al Espíritu de Dios y ser indiferente en la adoración, realizando los movimientos de modo mecánico, sin quebrantamiento ni pasión alguna.
Es fácil para los cristianos desplazarse por la vida con una rutina sin vida. He aprendido que es peligroso tener un ministerio creciente y al mismo tiempo tener una pasión por Dios que encoge. Es peligroso que cualquiera que sea su enfoque, sea mayor en el exterior mientras en el interior su pasión por Dios se ha enfriado. Quizá usted añadió otro cero a su salario este año… pero hubo un tiempo en que usted no tenía nada y sus lágrimas corrían mientras oraba y adoraba; cuanto más hace Él por nosotros, más agradecidos deberíamos estar; no más relajados y cómodos. Si está usted avanzando con una rutina apagada y sin pasión con una oración fervorosa, es momento de romper la rutina. Eso es lo que hace el ayuno, el verdadero ayuno.
El ayuno despeja el camino para que nos reenfoquemos y oigamos el corazón de Dios… Como he dicho antes, el ayuno es una disciplina a corto plazo que produce efectos a largo plazo. El ayuno es una elección que usted y yo podemos hacer para interrumpir “la vida como siempre” a fin de oír lo que Dios quiere hacer y cómo quiere Él usarnos para marcar una diferencia en la vida de otra persona.
Oración:
Padre que abre los cielos y mueves corazones, te pedumos que en este tiempo de ayuno despiertes hambre y sed en nuestro espíritu, para estar en tu presencia, que tu palabra sea mi alimemte y que abras los ojos espirituales, que haya una Pasión y un Fervor en nuestros corazones por tu Santo Espíritu, en el nombre de Cristo Jesús, amén.
Passion and Fervor!
Fasting is not just another religious exercise. In fact, if you read Isaiah 58 carefully, you will see that the chapter actually begins with God rebuking the people who were fasting, because his form of fasting was merely a good outward display to demonstrate his religiosity. Of his hypocrisy.

God is looking for the true!
If we are not careful, each one of us can become hardened to the Spirit of God and be indifferent in worship, performing the movements in a mechanical way, without any brokenness or passion.
It is easy for Christians to move through life with a lifeless routine. I have learned that it is dangerous to have a growing ministry and at the same time have a shrinking passion for God. It is dangerous that whatever your focus may be on the outside while your passion for God has cooled on the inside. Maybe you added another zero to your salary this year… but there was a time when you had nothing and your tears flowed as you prayed and adored; the more He does for us, the more grateful we should be; no more relaxed and comfortable. If you are moving on from a dull, passionless routine with earnest prayer, it is time to break the routine. That is what fasting does, true fasting.
Fasting clears the way for us to refocus and listen to the heart of God … As I have said before, fasting is a short-term discipline that produces long-term effects. Fasting is a choice that you and I can make to interrupt “life as usual” in order to hear what God wants to do and how He wants to use us to make a difference in someone else’s life.
Prayer:
Father who opens the heavens and moves hearts, I ask you that in this time of fasting awaken hunger and thirst in our spirit, to be in your presence, that your word be my nourishment and that you open spiritual eyes, that there be a Passion and a Fervor in our hearts for your Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
