¡Una vida de Fe, obediencia y humildad!
Su nombre significa: “La elegida por Dios, excelsa”
Lectura completa: Lucas 1:26-38
Es difícil pensar que haya alguien en el mundo cristiano que no conozca la historia de María la madre de Jesús. Algunos han optado por venerarla y equivocadamente idolatrarla, pero estos graves errores no deben impedirnos ver a María como una mujer de valor que su vida y sus actos son dignos de imitarse, de una manera similar a como el apóstol Pablo nos ordena a imitarle a Él. Sed imitadores de mí, así como yo de Cristo. (1 Co. 11:1)
“¡Salve, muy favorecida! El Señor está contigo; bendita eres tú entre las mujeres” Lucas 1:28
Fueron las palabras pronunciadas por el ángel Gabriel en su encuentro con María, la madre de Jesús. Tanto el Evangelio de Mateo como el de Lucas nos dicen que, al oír estas palabras, María quedó confusa y perturbada… ¡y no era para menos!
María era apenas una adolescente. Ella estaba comprometida para casarse con un joven llamado José, cuando una noche un ángel vino a darle la gran noticia de que ella iba a ser la madre del Mesías prometido.
Aquí algunas cosas que podemos aprender de María.
1. Su fe… Muchos pudieran pensar que su pregunta sobre cómo sería el dar a luz al hijo anunciado era falta de fe. María no insinuó la imposibilidad de que esto sucediera, la pregunta de ella parece ser el producto de una curiosidad genuina por saber los detalles de cómo Dios haría este milagro (pues ella era virgen). María confiaba en el Dios todopoderoso, y su fe puesta en las promesas de Dios la capacitó para obedecer.
2. Su obediencia… A la noticia del ángel, María responde: “Aquí tienes a la sierva del Señor; hágase conmigo conforme a tu palabra” (LC. 1:38). Su actitud de servicio y obediencia al Señor superaban por mucho sus inquietudes acerca del futuro, su obediencia a la tarea que Dios le había delegado hubiese implicado el abandono de su prometido y su deshonra como mujer, pero María no se detuvo a pensar en las consecuencias que traería el obedecer a Dios, sino que al oír el mandato su corazón de obediencia respondió positivamente. María puso en práctica aun antes de que se escribiera lo que dice Romanos 12:1: ella entregó su cuerpo como sacrificio vivo y santo.
3. Su humildad … La humildad distingue a María de entre las otras mujeres piadosas de la Biblia. Pensemos un poco en lo que ella tenía en sus manos: ser elegida por Dios entre todas las mujeres para llevar en su vientre al salvador, quien por su naturaleza divina nunca pecó. Desde una perspectiva humana, ¡esta madre tenía al Hijo perfecto! Desde una perspectiva divina, a esta mujer se le había otorgado el mayor de los privilegios
Estas dos concesiones hubieran, aunque sea por un minuto llenado de arrogancia y orgullo a cualquier mujer pero, todo lo contrario, su reacción fue un despliegue de adoración y gloria al Señor ( LC. 2:13). En ninguna parte leemos que María haya ido por todo el pueblo pregonando la visita de los pastores o la de los magos, ni la vemos haciendo alarde ni promocionando a su hijo. La Biblia solo dice que después de presenciar estos eventos María “atesoraba todas estas cosas en su corazón” (LC. 2:19).
La humildad, es una justa evaluación de lo que soy y un entendimiento de que lo que tengo es producto de la gracia de Dios. Este entendimiento aplaca la arrogancia y el orgullo y me enfoca en el verdadero protagonista de mi vida: que es Dios.
Humildad no es pobreza, tampoco es ir por la vida dando lástima
Humildad es la disposición para ser enseñado, para aprender. Es tener actitud de siervo, es trabajar para bendecir a los demás y no esperar ser servidos o atendidos. Es dar, en vez de buscar recibir.
Es reconocer que nos equivocamos, no resentirme por lo que me hagan, es estar en reposo cuando nadie me elogia, o cuando me culpan o desprecian”. La fe, el conocimiento de Dios, y sobre todo la humildad, permitieron que María estuviera en pie hasta el fin y con sus ojos puestos en el Señor, tanto en los tiempos de asombro ante ángeles y sabios, como ante la cruel realidad de ver a su Hijo inocente morir en una cruz.
Una vida que no apunta a sí misma…Ninguna de las cualidades de María, completamente dignas de imitar, apunta a ella misma. Todo lo que hemos visto apunta a ese Hijo que por gracia estuvo en su vientre; ese Hijo que sería el salvador de su propia vida y de la humanidad; ese Hijo que vivió en total obediencia al Padre y que es la personificación misma de la humildad.
Podemos resaltar de María que:
· Fue llena de gracia (Lc.1:30)
Gracia es el favor no merecido, virtud por la cual Dios nos da algo sin nada a cambio, cuando vivimos en obediencia y en una íntima comunión diaria con El Señor somos llenas de su gracia.
· Fue privilegiada (Lc.1:31)
Mujer privilegiada como ninguna otra, escogida para ser la madre de Jesús, pero nosotras también por haber creído y aceptado a Jesús como El Señor de nuestras vidas tenemos el privilegio de ser llamadas hijas y herederas de Dios y coherederas con Cristo (Ro. 8:17)
¡Entonces disfrutemos, valoremos y creamos en este gran privilegio!
· Fue llena del Espíritu Santo (Lc.1:35)
El Espíritu Santo vino sobre ella y el poder del Altísimo la cubrió con su sombra, nosotras podemos recibir esa llenura en la medida que buscamos mas de su presencia y si todo nuestro ser, espíritu, alma y cuerpo lo rendimos completamente a Él.
· Fue Decidida (Lc.1:39-40)
María se movió rápidamente dando esos pasos de Fe y obediencia sin cuestionar las instrucciones de Dios, primero fue la palabra que trajo revelación y claridad, después fue la acción, siempre es así, nunca es al revés; cuando funcionamos al revés y nos movemos por impulsos, emociones o desesperación, seguramente terminamos fracasando. Cuando nos movemos bajo la dirección del Espíritu Santo tenemos éxito en todo lo que emprendemos.
Cuando sé de parte de Dios lo que tengo que hacer, simplemente tengo que ir y hacerlo. El Señor me bendecirá.
· Ella paso por el dolor y el sufrimiento (Lc.2:35)
María sufriría por su hijo mientras él agonizaba en la cruz. Quizás, por esta razón, Simeón le dijo cuando Jesús era solo un bebé que “una espada traspasara tu misma alma”. Ella fue testigo ocular del brutal trato sufrido por su hijo (Juan 19:26-27). Pero ella sabía que todo esto era necesario para que se cumpliera la voluntad de Dios.
Del mismo modo, ser un siervo fiel de Dios no significa que vayamos a evitar el sufrimiento, las pruebas o el dolor, pero El Señor promete estar con nosotros, fortalecernos y nunca desampararnos.
· Fue una mujer de Oración
La Biblia nos dice que María estaba entre los discípulos de Cristo que estaban “entregados de continuo a la oración”. Al igual que el resto, ella también necesitaba desesperadamente dirigir sus súplicas y dar gracias a Dios a través de Jesucristo.
Todos éstos perseveraban unánimes en oración y ruego, con las mujeres, y con
María la madre de Jesús, y con sus hermanos. (Hechos 1:14)
· Fue Agradecida y Adoro a Dios (Lc.1:46-50-)
Entonces María dijo: Engrandece mi alma al Señor;Y mi espíritu se regocija en Dios mi Salvador. Porque ha mirado la bajeza de su sierva; Pues he aquí, desde ahora me dirán bienaventurada todas las generaciones. Porque me ha hecho grandes cosas el Poderoso; Santo es su nombre,Y su misericordia es de generación en generación a los que le temen.
Una simple y sencilla actitud de gratitud y alabanza, nos libera de la queja, nos sana de la amargura, nos previene contra el negativismo y el pesimismo, nos ayuda a disfrutar de todas las cosas, nos motiva a tener sueños mayores y nos mueve a querer lograr cosas más grandes para Dios.
Oración:
Amado Señor, quiero que mi vida sea un ejemplo de fe y humildad, sé que me has escogido para hacer grandes cosas para tu Reino, por eso quiero seguir la dirección de tu Santo Espíritu y tomar las decisiones correctas y así poder alcanzar tu propósito en mi vida, deseo acercarme más a ti para conocerte y obedecer tu palabra, te entrego mi corazón para que lo transformes a tu imagen y semejanza en el Nombre de Jesús…Amén.
Mary the Mother of Jesus
A life of Faith, obedience and humility!
Her name means: “The one chosen by God, exalted”
Full reading: Luke 1: 26-38
It is difficult to think that there is anyone in the Christian world who does not know the story of Mary the mother of Jesus. Some have chosen to honor her and mistakenly idolize her, but these serious errors should not prevent us from seeing Mary as a woman of value whose life and actions are worthy of being imitated, in a similar way to how the Apostle Paul orders us to imitate Him Be imitators of me, as well as I of Christ. (1 Cor. 11: 1)
“Hail, highly favored! The Lord is with you; blessed are you among women ”Luke 1:28
They were the words spoken by the angel Gabriel in his meeting with Mary, the mother of Jesus. Both the Gospels of Matthew and Luke tell us that, upon hearing these words, Mary was confused and disturbed … and she was not for less!
Maria was just a teenager. She was engaged to be married to a young man named Joseph, when one night an angel came to give her the great news that she was to be the mother of the promised Messiah.
Here are some things we can learn from Maria.
1. her faith… Many might think that her question about what it would be like to give birth to the announced child was a lack of faith. Mary did not hint at the impossibility of this happening, her question seems to be the product of a genuine curiosity to know the details of how God would perform this miracle (since she was a virgin). Mary trusted in almighty God, and her faith in God’s promises enabled her to obey.
2. her obedience… To the news of the angel, Mary replied: “Here you have the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word ”(LC. 1:38). Her attitude of service and obedience to the Lord far outweighed her concerns about the future, her obedience to the task that God had delegated to her would have implied the abandonment of her fiancé and her dishonor as a woman, but Mary did not stop to think about the consequences that obeying God would bring, but upon hearing the command his heart of obedience responded positively. Mary put into practice even before Romans 12: 1 was written: she gave up her body as a living and holy sacrifice.
3. her humility… Humility distinguishes Mary from other godly women in the Bible. Let’s think a little about what she had in her hands: to be chosen by God among all women to carry in her womb the savior, who by her divine nature never sinned. From a human perspective, this mother had the perfect Son! From a divine perspective, this woman had been granted the greatest of privileges
These two concessions would have, even for a minute filled with arrogance and pride to any woman but, on the contrary, her reaction was a display of adoration and glory to the Lord (LC. 2:13). Nowhere do we read that Mary has gone around the town proclaiming the visit of the shepherds or the magicians, nor do we see her showing off or promoting her son. The Bible only says that after witnessing these events Mary “treasured all these things in her heart” (LC. 2:19).
Humility is a fair evaluation of who I am and an understanding that what I have is the product of God’s grace. This understanding appeases arrogance and pride and focuses me on the true protagonist of my life: who is God.
Humility is not poverty, nor is it going through life giving pity
Humility is the disposition to be taught, to learn. It is having the attitude of a servant, it is working to bless others and not waiting to be served or cared for. It is giving, rather than seeking to receive.
It is to recognize that we are wrong, not to resent what they do to you, it is to be at rest when nobody praises you, or when they blame or despise you”. Faith, the knowledge of God, and above all humility, allowed Mary to stand to the end and with her eyes fixed on the Lord, both in times of amazement before angels and sages, and before the cruel reality of seeing her innocent Son to die on a cross.
A life that does not point to itself… None of the qualities of Mary, completely worthy of imitation, points to herself. Everything we have seen points to that Son who by grace was in her womb; that Son who would be the savior of his own life and of his humanity; that Son who lived in total obedience to the Father and who is the very personification of humility.
We can highlight from Mary that:
She was full of grace (Lk.1: 30)
Grace is the undeserved favor, virtue by which God gives us something for nothing in return, when we live in obedience and in intimate daily communion with the Lord we are filled with the grace of it.
She was privileged (Lk.1: 31)
A privileged woman like no other, chosen to be the mother of Jesus, but we also for having believed and accepted Jesus as The Lord of our lives we are privileged to be called daughters and heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:17)
So let’s enjoy, value and believe in this great privilege!
· Was filled with the Holy Spirit (Lk 1:35)
The Holy Spirit came upon her and the power of the Most High covered her with his shadow, we can receive that fullness as we seek more of his presence and if our whole being, spirit, soul and body we completely surrender to Him.
She Was Determined (Lk 1: 39-40)
Mary moved quickly taking those steps of Faith and obedience without questioning God’s instructions, first it was the word that brought revelation and clarity, then it was the action, it is always like this, it is never the other way around; When we work backwards and are driven by impulses, emotions or despair, we surely end up failing. When we move under the direction of the Holy Spirit we are successful in everything we undertake.
When I know from God what I have to do, I just have to go and do it. The Lord will bless me.
She went through pain and suffering (Lk.2: 35)
Mary would suffer for her son while he was dying on the cross. Perhaps, for this reason, Simeon told her when Jesus was just a baby that “a sword will pierce your very soul.” She was an eyewitness to the brutal treatment suffered by her son (John 19: 26-27). But she knew that all of this was necessary for God’s will to be accomplished.
Likewise, being a faithful servant of God does not mean that we will avoid suffering, trials, or pain, but the Lord promises to be with us, to strengthen us, and never to abandon us.
She was a woman of prayer
The Bible tells us that Mary was among the disciples of Christ who were “continually given to prayer.” Like the rest of her, she too desperately needed to direct her pleas and give thanks to God through Jesus Christ.
These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and with
Mary the mother of Jesus, and with her brothers. (Acts 1:14)
She was grateful and adored God (Lk. 1: 46-50-)
Then Mary said: My soul magnifies the Lord; And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For he has seen the baseness of his handmaid; For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed. Because the Mighty One has done great things to me; Holy is his name, And his mercy is from generation to generation to those who fear him.
A simple and simple attitude of gratitude and praise frees us from complaining, heals us from bitterness, warns us against negativism and pessimism, helps us to enjoy all things, motivates us to have bigger dreams and moves us to wanting to accomplish greater things for God.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, I want my life to be an example of faith and humility, I know that you have chosen me to do great things for your Kingdom, that is why I want to follow the direction of your Holy Spirit and make the right decisions and thus be able to achieve your purpose in My life, I want to get closer to you to know you and obey your word, I give you my heart so that you can transform it into your image and likeness in the Name of Jesus … Amen.
