Que el Dios de la esperanza los llene de toda alegría y paz a ustedes que creen en él, para que rebosen de esperanza por el poder del Espíritu Santo. ROMANOS 15:13
«Espero que hoy no llueva». «Espero que me haya ido bien en el examen final». «Espero que no se haya olvidado de nuestro aniversario». «Espero que me den un ascenso». Pocas de las cosas que esperamos buscan una satisfacción duradera. Incluso cuando conseguimos lo que queríamos, lo que hacemos es pensar en lo que vendrá a continuación. Tenemos que esperar otra cosa. Y, aunque no es malo esperar estas cosas, la verdad es que todas nos decepcionan si no las obtenemos; aun así, la satisfacción que implican es solo temporal.
La única cosa que podemos esperar y que tiene un valor duradero es nuestra eternidad con el Señor. ¡Y eso sí que es emocionante! Piensa en una vida sin miedo, dolor, culpabilidad, pena, enfermedad, pérdida, rechazo o muerte. Piensa en una abundancia de amor, gozo, paz, bondad y belleza. Si decidimos poner nuestra esperanza en Dios, no seremos decepcionados. Nuestras expectativas serán sobrepasadas. Y eso sí que no sucede a menudo.
Oración:
Dios, veo que la esperanza que ponemos en las cosas terrenales solo es temporal. En vez de eso, deposito mi esperanza en la recompensa eterna de vivir para siempre contigo. ¡Es muchísimo más emocionante!
Hope in God
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. ROMANS 15:13
I hope it doesn’t rain today. I hope I did well on that final. I hope he didn’t forget our anniversary. I hope I get a promotion. Few things that we hope for contain the kind of satisfaction that lasts. Even if we get what we hoped for, what comes next? We have to hope for something else. And while it’s not bad to hope for these, the truth is that any of them are disappointing if not met, and all of them only carry temporary satisfaction.
The one thing we can hope for that has lasting value is our eternity with the Lord. And that’s actually exciting! Think of life without fear, pain, guilt, sorrow, sickness, loss, rejection, ordeath. Think about an abundance of love, joy, peace, kindness, and beauty. When we choose to put our hope in God, we will not be disappointed. Our expectations will be exceeded. How often does that happen?
Prayer:
God, I see how hope in earthly things is only temporary. I put my hope instead in the eternal reward of living forever with you. That is so much more exciting!
