Mateo 20: 17-19
Ahora Jesús iba a Jerusalén. En el camino, llevó a los Doce a un lado y les dijo: “Vamos a subir a Jerusalén, y el Hijo del Hombre será entregado a los principales sacerdotes y a los maestros de la ley. Lo condenarán a muerte y lo entregarán a los gentiles para que sea burlado, azotado y crucificado. ¡Al tercer día resucitará a la vida!”
Lucas 22: 1-6
Ahora se acercaba el Festival de los Panes sin Levadura, llamado la Pascua, y los principales sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley buscaban alguna forma de deshacerse de Jesús, porque tenían miedo de la gente. Entonces Satanás entró en Judas, llamado Iscariote, uno de los Doce. Y Judas fue a los principales sacerdotes y a los oficiales de la guardia del templo y discutió con ellos cómo podría traicionar a Jesús. Estuvieron encantados y acordaron darle dinero. Él consintió y buscó la oportunidad de entregarles a Jesús cuando no había gente presente.
Puntos para aclarar:
Jesús sabía que la traición venía y podía nombrar a su traidor. Él había elegido a Judas para estar entre los doce discípulos y se dedicó a enseñar y revelar el amor de Dios a Judas tal como lo había hecho con los demás. Entonces, ¿qué motivó a Judas a entregar a Jesús? ¿Esperaba animar a Jesús a ser el Mesías conquistador que tantos anticipaban? ¿Se basó su decisión en la ganancia egoísta? ¿Había sido consumido por el mal? Su intención es desconocida. Que Judas pudiera traicionar a Jesús no debería necesariamente sorprendernos. Existe dentro de cada uno de nosotros el potencial para hablar y actuar de maneras que van en contra de nuestro Señor.
En este punto intermedio de la Semana Santa, el impulso de los eventos que llevan a la cruz comienza a acelerarse. Este es un momento oportuno para que reduzcamos el ritmo en nuestros espíritus y hagamos una pausa para realmente reflexionar sobre el papel y la influencia de Jesús en nuestras propias vidas.
Reflexionar:
¿Qué le llevó primero a una relación con Jesús? ¿Qué esperanzas alimentan su fe? ¿Qué es lo que le impide retener sus sueños con los de Él y aceptar genuinamente a Jesús como el Señor de su vida?
Pídale a Dios que le revele ocasiones en que sus pensamientos o acciones lo hayan traicionado. Esperando que Él obre, pídale que renueve su pasión por seguir a Jesús y que le otorgue una fe duradera.
Oración:
Señor, he pecado contra ti. Yo sé que esto es cierto. Perdóname por favor. Quiero ser más como tú. Espíritu Santo, guíame, muéstrame una mejor manera y ayúdame a seguir en tu camino. Mi vida es tuya. Amén.
The Betrayed
Matthew 20: 17-19
Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”
Luke 22:1-6
Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
Points to clarify:
Jesus knew that betrayal was coming and he could name His betrayer. He had chosen Judas to be among the twelve disciples and He dedicated himself to teaching and revealing God’s love to Judas just as He had done to others. So what motivated Judas to betray Jesus? Did he hope to encourage Jesus to be the conquering Messiah that so many anticipated? Was his decision based on selfish gain? Had he been consumed by evil? His intention is unknown. That Judas could betray Jesus should not necessarily surprise us. There is within each of us the potential to speak and act in ways that go against our Lord.
At this halfway point in Holy Week, the momentum of events leading up to the cross begins to pick up speed. This is an opportune time for us to slow down in our spirits and pause to really reflect on the role and influence of Jesus in our own lives.
Reflect:
What first led you to a relationship with Jesus? What hopes feed his faith? What is it that prevents you from holding his dreams with his and genuinely accepting Jesus as Lord of his life?
Ask God to reveal times when his thoughts or actions have betrayed you. While waiting for Him to work, ask Him to renew your passion to follow Jesus and give you lasting faith.
Prayer:
Lord, I have sinned against you. I know this is true. Please forgive me. I want to be more like you. Holy Spirit, guide me, show me a better way and help me continue on your way. My life is yours. Amen.
