EL ESPÍRITU SANTO está utilizando su ayuno para revelar su verdadero estado espiritual, dando como resultado quebrantamiento, arrepentimiento y una vida transformada. Dios busca por toda la tierra esos pocos fieles sobre los cuales pueda derramar su bendición de maneras extraordinarias. Cuando usted ayuna, atrae la atención de Él como alguien dispuesto a aventurarse por encima de las normas de la religión y entrar en la gran aventura.
La raíz hebrea de santificarse es qadhash, que también es la raíz de la palabra santo. Dios dijo: “Yo soy el Señor su Dios” así que santifíquense y manténganse santos, porque yo soy santo” (Levítico 11:44, NVI). La santificación es el proceso de llegar a ser santo en la vida cotidiana; es practicar la pureza y ser apartado del mundo y del pecado. La santificación es permitir al Espíritu Santo que nos haga más semejantes a Jesús en lo que hacemos, en lo que pensamos, y en lo que deseamos. No oímos mucho sobre la santificación desde los púlpitos en estos tiempos, pero si hemos de ver a Dios hacer maravillas en medio de nosotros, debemos confrontar el pecado en nuestras vidas y vivir santos.
Dios estaba a punto de guiar a su pueblo escogido a salir contra los enemigos de Dios, pero ellos no podían permanecer si no eran santos. Esto se ve claramente en el contraste entre la victoria sobrenatural de Israel contra la ciudad de Jericó en Josué 6 y su derrota en Josué 7 contra el diminuto ejército de Hai después de que Israel hubiera pecado al haber robado y ocultado cosas en medio de ellos. Deseamos estar en la voluntad de Dios y andar de acuerdo a sus planes. La santificación es la clave de estar en la voluntad de Dios. Como dijo Pablo: “pues la voluntad de Dios es vuestra santificación” (1 Tesalonicenses 4:3). No hay necesidad de intentar descubrir alguna misteriosa “rueda de Dios”. No puede usted seguir la guía de Dios hasta que comience donde Pablo dijo que comenzara. El ayuno es un medio esencial de santificarse, apartándose del mundo y acercándose a Dios. El ayuno le permite filtrar su vida y ponerse aparte para buscar al Señor. Jesús oró por nosotros:
No son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo. Santifícalos en tu verdad; tu palabra es verdad. Como tú me enviaste al mundo, así yo los he enviado al mundo. Y por ellos yo me santifico a mí mismo, para que también ellos sean santificados en la verdad.
El ayuno le ayudará a identificar áreas de pecado oculto y cosas que son desagradables a Dios en su vida. El ayuno le ayuda a discernir entre servir a la carne y servir al espíritu. “Porque si la sangre de los toros y de los machos cabríos, y las cenizas de la becerra rociadas a los inmundos, santifican para la purificación de la carne, ¿cuánto más la sangre de Cristo, el cual mediante el Espíritu eterno se ofreció a sí mismo sin mancha a Dios, limpiará vuestras conciencias de obras muertas para que sirváis al Dios vivo?” (Hebreos 9:13-14). Si estamos en Cristo, su sangre nos limpia de obras muertas, capacitándonos para servir a Dios en santidad.
El ayuno le ayuda a distinguir entre lo que usted quiere y lo que realmente necesita. Cuando decide no preocuparse por esas cosas y buscarle a Él primeramente, está demostrando el tipo de fe que agrada a Dios, porque está confiando en que Él también le dará todas las cosas que usted necesita.

LAS PERSONAS PUEDEN ser utilizadas en nuestras vidas como bendiciones de Dios o como herramientas del enemigo. Usted tiene que ser capaz de “discernir” la diferencia entre las dos. Están las “personas carnales” que le derriban, pero están las “personas de fe” que le edifican y ayudan a destapar su potencial. Las “personas carnales” alimentan su temor y hacen que se sienta como si hubiera perdido su sueño. Las “relaciones correctas” comienzan a infundir en usted una actitud que dice: “puedo hacerlo”. Comienza a expandir su pensamiento: “Bueno, quizá puedo hacer eso”. Puede ser “catapultado” por las relaciones que Dios pone en su vida. Por tanto, a medida que continúa el ayuno y le busca a Él hoy, busque su consejo sobre las relaciones que hay en su vida. ¿Cuáles son agotadoras? ¿Cuáles le apoyan? ¿Cuáles usted representa a los demás?

The Holy Spirit is using your fast
THE HOLY SPIRIT is using your fasting to reveal his true spiritual state, resulting in brokenness, repentance, and a transformed life. God searches all over the earth for those faithful few on whom he can pour out his blessing in extraordinary ways. When you fast, you attract His attention as one who is willing to venture above the norms of religion and enter into the great adventure.
The Hebrew root for sanctify yourself is qadhash, which is also the root of the word holy. God said, “I am the Lord his God” so sanctify yourselves and keep yourselves holy, for I am holy” (Leviticus 11:44, NIV). Sanctification is the process of becoming holy in everyday life; it is practicing purity and being separated from the world and from sin. Sanctification is allowing the Holy Spirit to make us more like Jesus in what we do, what we think, and what we desire. We don’t hear much about sanctification from the pulpits these days, but if we are to see God work wonders in our midst, we must confront sin in our lives and live holy.
God was about to lead his chosen people to go out against the enemies of God, but they could not stand if they were not holy. This is clearly seen in the contrast between Israel’s supernatural victory against the city of Jericho in Joshua 6 and their defeat in Joshua 7 against the tiny army of Ai after Israel had sinned by stealing and hiding things in their midst. We want to be in God’s will and walk according to his plans. Sanctification is the key to being in the will of God. As Paul said: “for the will of God is your sanctification” (1 Thessalonians 4:3). There’s no need to try to figure out some mysterious “wheel of God.” You cannot follow God’s lead until you start where Paul said to start. Fasting is an essential means of sanctifying oneself, separating oneself from the world and drawing closer to God. Fasting allows you to filter your life and set yourself apart to seek the Lord. Jesus prayed for us:
They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in your truth; Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they too may be sanctified in the truth.
Fasting will help you identify areas of hidden sin and things that are unpleasant to God in your life. Fasting helps you discern between serving the flesh and serving the spirit. “The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” (Hebrews 9:13-14). If we are in Christ, his blood cleanses us from dead works, enabling us to serve God in holiness.
Fasting helps you distinguish between what you want and what you really need. When you decide not to worry about those things and seek Him first, you are demonstrating the kind of faith that pleases God, because you are trusting that He will also give you all the things you need.

Right Relationships and Kingdom Connections
PEOPLE CAN be used in our lives as blessings from God or as tools of the enemy. You have to be able to “discern” the difference between the two. There are the “carnal people” who tear you down, but there are the “people of faith” who build you up and help you unlock your potential. “Carnal people” feed your fear and make you feel like you have lost your sleep. The “right relationships” begin to instill in you an attitude that says, “I can do it.” He begins to expand his thought: “Well, maybe I can do that.” You can be “catapulted” by the relationships God places in your life. So as you continue your fast and seek Him today, seek His advice on the relationships in your life. What ones are exhausting? Which ones support you? Which ones do you present to others?
