En aquellos días se reunió de nuevo mucha gente. Como no tenían nada que comer, Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo: «Siento compasión de esta gente porque ya llevan tres días conmigo y no tienen nada que comer». (MARCOS 8.1–2, NVI)
¿Hasta dónde llegarías por ver a tu equipo favorito jugar un partido importante? ¿Cuánto aguantarías sin comer, porque una apasionante novela de aventuras te tiene absorto? Si te enteraras de que tu héroe de acción favorito acudiría a un acontecimiento en una ciudad vecina, ¿lo intentarías todo por conseguir que tus padres te llevaran? ¿Qué cantidad de tu asignación ahorrarías para comprar una bicicleta nueva o un juego que desearas tener de verdad?
Las personas darían mucho por lograr algo que ansiaran con todas sus fuerzas. Probablemente hasta hayas oído hablar de personas que acampan durante la noche tan solo para conseguir un buen lugar en la fila para ver una superproducción que se estrena durante el fin de semana.
Cuando Jesús iba a una ciudad, la gente dejaba muchas cosas por oírlo hablar. Abandonaban su casa, acampaban fuera y se iban sin comer durante unos cuantos días solo para poder estar cerca de él. No tenían autos ni bicicletas. Tenían que caminar kilómetros y kilómetros para escuchar sus palabras. Incluso hicieron largas caminatas a través de montes y sin comida. Así de entusiasmados estaban y tanta era su curiosidad con respecto a él. Esto dice mucho sobre Jesús. Era tan asombroso que sacrificaban mucho por estar cerca de él.
Oración
¡Vaya, Jesús! Eres tan asombroso que las personas daban mucho por aprender de ti. No quiero perderme nada de lo que tú eres. Ayúdame a hacer lo que haga falta para conocerte mejor.
Day 31 • Worth the Time
During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat.” (MARK 8:1−2)
How far would you go to see your favorite sports team play a big game? How long would you go without eating because you were so engrossed in an exciting adventure novel? If you heard your favorite action hero was going to be at an event in a nearby city, would you try everything to get your parents to take you there? How much allowance would you save to buy a new bike or game that you really, really wanted?
People will give up a lot to get something they really want. You’ve probably even heard about people who camp out overnight just to get a good place in line for a blockbuster movie’s opening weekend.
When Jesus was coming to town, people gave up a lot to hear him speak. They would leave home, camp out, and go without meals for a few days just so they could be around him. People didn’t have cars or bikes. They had to walk miles and miles to hear him speak. They may as well have hiked a mountain without food. That’s how excited and curious they were about him. That says a lot about Jesus. He was so awesome that people gave up a lot to be near him.
Prayer
Wow, Jesus! You are so amazing that people gave up so much to learn from you. I don’t want to miss out on who you are. Help me to do whatever it takes to know you better.
