Que nunca te abandonen el amor y la verdad: llévalos siempre alrededor de tu cuello y escríbelos en el libro de tu corazón.

¿Cómo se supone que ates el amor y la verdad alrededor de tu cuello o que los escribas en tu corazón? No hay forma de acercar una pluma al corazón. Además, aunque fuera posible, nadie lo vería. Tal vez podrías pasearte llevando un collar con un gran corazón de plata o con un cartel colgado al cuello que dijera «Amor y verdad, aquí». Sin embargo, Dios tiene otra cosa en mente.
No estaba diciendo exactamente que uno se colgara un cartel ni que escribieras, de forma literal, algo en tu corazón (¡de todos modos sería imposible!). Ciertas ideas de Dios son tan importantes que usa una ilustración para exponer lo que pretende. Estaba afirmando que el amor y la verdad (ser fiel a sus caminos) tienen que ser parte de tu identidad, de quien eres. Entonces otros los verán. Cuando amas a Dios y a tu familia —cuando eres fiel— es como si llevaras un cartel luminoso con letras doradas. Otros notarán de inmediato cómo actúas. Si tu corazón está en sintonía con los caminos de Dios, tú lo mostrarás de forma externa. Podrías destacarlo con una joya, por supuesto, pero es incluso mejor que tus actos manifiesten de forma natural lo que Dios ha puesto dentro de ti.
Oración:
Señor, muéstrame cómo poder ser más amoroso y leal para que otros lo vean y pregunten sobre ti.
Day 156 • Show It Off
Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.
(PROVERBS 3:3)
How in the world are you supposed to tie love and faithfulness around your neck or write them on your heart? There’s no way to get a pen to your heart. Plus, no one could see it even if you could. You could walk around with a big silver heart necklace, or hang a sign around your neck that reads “Love and Faithfulness Here.” But God had something else in mind.
God wasn’t exactly saying to hang a sign or literally write something on your heart (which is impossible anyway!). Certain ideas from God are so important that he uses a word picture to make his point. He was saying that love and faithfulness (being loyal to his ways) need to be part of who you are. Then others will see them. When you love God and your family—when you are faithful—it’s like wearing a glittering sign with golden letters. Others will notice how you act. If your heart Is in tune with God’s ways, then your outside shows it. Sure, you could show it off with bling, but it’s even better if your actions naturally show what God has put inside you.
Prayer:
Lord, show me how to become more loving and faithful so others see it and ask about you.
