Entregarse no es la mejor manera de vivir, es la única manera de vivir. Ninguna otra cosa da resultado. Cualquier otro en- foque conduce a la frustración, la decepción y la destrucción propia. En la versión Reina-Valera de la Biblia a la entrega se le llama “vuestro culto racional” y una ver- sión en inglés la traduce como “la manera más sensata de servir a Dios”. Entregar nuestra vida no es un impulso emocional e insensato, sino una acción inteligente y racional, el acto más responsible y sensato que podemos hacer con nuestra vida. Pablo lo dijo: “Por eso nos empeñamos en agradarle”. Tus momentos más sabios serán aquellos cuando le digas a Dios que sí.
Puede que te lleve años, pero al fin descubrirás que el mayor estorbo a la bendición de Dios en tu vida no son los demás, sino tú mismo: tu propia voluntad, tu orgullo obstinado y tu ambición personal. No podrás cumplir los propósitos que Dios tiene para tu vida mientras vivas concentrado en tus propios planes.
Si Dios va a trabajar a fondo contigo, comenzará con esto. Así que entrégale todo a Dios: lo que lamentas de tu pasado, tus problemas del presente, tus ambiciones para el futuro, tus temores, tus sueños, tus debilidades, tus costumbres, tus penas y tus complejos. Pon a Cristo en el asiento del conductor de tu vida y suelta las riendas. No tengas miedo; nada que él tenga bajo su control puede quedar a la deriva. Si Cristo tiene el dominio, podrás enfrentarlo todo. Serás como Pablo, que dijo estar “listo para cualquier cosa y para enfrentarme a cualquier circunstancia, gracias a aquel que me infunde la fuerza interior; o sea, soy autosu- ficiente en la suficiencia de Cristo”.
Pablo se rindió en el camino a Damasco, después de que una luz deslumbrante lo hiciera caer al suelo. A otras personas Dios les llama la atención con métodos menos drásticos. De todos modos, la consagración nunca es un acontecimiento transi- torio. Pablo dijo: “Cada día muero”. Hay un instante de consagración y una práctica de consagración, que es a cada momento y por toda la vida. El problema de los sacrificios vivos es que se pueden escapar del altar, por lo que puede ser necesario reconsagrar nuestra vida varias veces al día. Debes hacer de la consagración un hábito diario. Jesús afirmó: “Si alguno quiere seguirme, debe renunciar a las cosas que quiere. Debe estar dispuesto a renunciar a su vida cada día y seguirme”.
Una advertencia: Cuando decidimos tener una vida enteramente consagrada, esta decisión será puesta a prueba. A veces implicará realizar tareas inconvenientes, nada gratas, costosas o aparentemente im- posibles. Varias veces implicará ir en contra de lo que deseamos hacer.
Uno de los líderes cristianos más grandes del siglo veinte fue Bill Bright, el fundador de la Cruzada Estudiantil y Profesional para Cristo. Gracias al personal de la Cruzada en todo el mundo, al folleto de las “Cuatro leyes espirituales” y a la película Jesus (vista por más de mil millones de espectadores), más de ciento cincuenta millones de personas han aceptado a Cristo y pasarán la eternidad en el cielo.
En una ocasión le pregunté a Bill: “¿Por qué ha usado Dios tu vida y te ha bendecido tanto?”. Me contestó: “Cuando era joven, hice un contrato con Dios. Lo escribí y firmé de mi puño y letra. Decía: “A partir de hoy, soy esclavo de Jesucristo”.
¿Alguna vez has firmado un contrato como ese con Dios? ¿O todavía estás discutiendo y luchando con Dios acerca del derecho que él tiene de hacer con tu vida que le plazca? Llegó el momento de que te rindas a Dios, su gracia, su amor y su sabiduría.

DAY 10/Fifth part • The Heart of Worship
Jesus said, “If people want to follow me, they must give up the things they want. They must be willing to give up their lives daily to follow me.”

Surrender is not the best way to live; it is the only way to live. Nothing else works. All other approaches lead to frustration, disappointment, and self-destruction. The King James Version calls surrender “your reasonable service.” Another version translates it “the most sensible way to serve God.” Surrendering your life is not a foolish emotional impulse but a rational, intelligent act, the most responsible and sensible thing you can do with your life. That is why Paul said, “So we make it our goal to please him.” Your wisest moments will be those when you say yes to God. Sometimes it takes years, but eventually you discover that the greatest hindrance to God’s blessing in your life is not others, it is yourself- your selfwill, stubborn pride, and personal ambition. You cannot fulfill God’s purposes for your life while focusing on your own plans.
If God is going to do his deepest work in you, it will begin with this. So give it all to God: your past regrets, your present problems, your future ambitions, your fears, dreams, weaknesses, habits, hurts, and hang-ups. Put Jesus Christ in the driver’s seat of your life and take your hands off the steering wheel. Don’t be afraid; nothing under his control can ever be out of control. Mastered by Christ, you can handle anything. You will be like Paul: “I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses inner strength into me, that is, I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency.”
Pauľ’s moment of surrender occurred on the Damascus road after he was knocked down by a blinding light. For others, God gets our attention with less drastic methods. Regardless, surrendering is never just a one-time event. Paul said, “I die daily.” There is a moment of sur- render, and there is the practice of surrender, which is moment-by-moment and lifelong. The problem with a living sacrifice is that it can crawl off the altar, so you may have to resurrender your life fifty times a day. You must make it a daily habit. Jesus said, “If people want to follow me, they must give up the things they want. They must be willing to give up their lives daily to follow me.”
Let me warn you: When you decide to live a totally surrendered life, that decision will be tested. Sometimes it will mean doing inconvenient, unpopular, costly, or seemingly impossible tasks. It will often mean doing the opposite of what you feel like doing.
One of the great Christian leaders of the twentieth century was Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ. Through Crusade staff around the world, the Four Spiritual Laws tract, and the Jesus film (seen by over four billion people), more than 150 million people have come to Christ and will spend eternity in heaven.
I once asked Bill, “Why did God use and bless your life so much?” He said, “When I was a young man, I made a contract with God. I literally wrote it out and signed my name at the bottom. It said, “From this day forward, I am a slave of Jesus Christ.'”
Have you ever signed a contract like that with God? Or are you still arguing and struggling with God over his right to do with your life as he pleases? Now is your time to surrender – to God’s grace, love, and wisdom.
