¡Deja de discutir con Dios! Ponte de acuerdo con él, y por fin tendrás paz y las cosas te irán bien. JOB 22:21 (BAD)
Jesús no oró diciendo: «Dios, si pudieras evitarme este dolor, hazlo». ¡Ya había afirmado que todo es posible para Dios! En vez de eso oró: «Dios, si lo mejor para ti es librarme de este sufrimiento, hazlo por favor. Pero si es para cumplir con tu propósito, yo también lo quiero así».
La entrega auténtica dice: «Padre, si este problema, dolor, enfermedad y circunstancia son necesarios para cumplir tu propósito y para tu gloria en mi vida o en la de otro, no me libres de este trance». Este grado de madurez no se logra fácilmente. En el caso de Jesús, la agonía por el plan de Dios fue tanta que sudó gotas de sangre. La entrega implica trabajo duro. En nuestro caso, es un combate intenso contra nuestra naturaleza egocéntrica.
Las bendiciones de rendirnos. La Biblia no podría ser más clara con respecto a los beneficios que trae una vida completamente entregada a Dios. En primer lugar, experimentamos paz. «¡Deja de discutir con Dios! Ponte de acuerdo con él, y por fin tendrás paz y las cosas te irán bien». Luego, experimentamos libertad: «Sométanse a los caminos de Dios y serán libres para siempre… sus mandatos los liberan para vivir abiertamente su libertad». En tercer lugar, experimentamos el poder de Dios en nuestra vida. Cristo puede derrotar las tentaciones pertinaces y los problemas acuciantes si se los entregamos a él.
Cuando Josué estaba próximo a la batalla más grande de su vida, se encontró con Dios, se postró en adoración y se puso a sus órdenes, sometiéndole sus planes. Esa entrega le permitió una victoria imponente sobre Jericó. Esta es la paradoja: la victoria viene de rendirse. La entrega no nos debilita, nos fortalece. Cuando nos entregamos a Dios, no tenemos por qué temer o rendirnos a nada más. William Booth, el fundador del Ejército de Salvación, dijo: «La grandeza del poder de un hombre está en el grado de su consagración».
Dios usa a las personas consagradas. Dios eligió a María para ser la madre de Jesús, no porque fuera talentosa o rica o hermosa, sino porque era una persona completamente consagrada a él. Cuando el ángel le explicó el inverosímil plan de Dios, ella con calma le respondió que era la sierva del Señor y que estaba dispuesta a aceptar lo que él quisiera. No hay nada más poderoso que una vida consagrada puesta en las manos de Dios. Así que debemos someternos completamente a Dios.
La mejor manera de vivir. Al fin y al cabo, todos acabaremos rindiéndonos a algo o a alguien. Si no nos entregamos a Dios, nos entregaremos a las opiniones o expectativas de otros, al dinero, al resentimiento, al temor o a nuestro propio orgullo, a nuestro deseo o a nuestro ego. Dios nos diseñó para adorarlo; si no lo hacemos, crearemos otras cosas (ídolos) para entregarles nuestra vida. Somos libres de elegir a quién nos rendiremos, pero no podremos librarnos de las consecuencias de esa elección. E. Stanley Jones dijo: “Si uno no se entrega a Cristo, se entrega al caos”
Reflexión:
Entregarse no es la mejor manera de vivir, es la única.
DAY 10/Part 4th • The Heart of Worship
Stop quarreling with God! If you agree with him, you will have peace at last, and things will go well for you.
JOB 22:21 (NLT)
Genuine surrender says, “Father, if this problem, pain, sickness, or circumstance is needed to fulfill your purpose and glory in my life or in another’s, please don’t take it away.” This level of maturity does not come easy. In Jesus’ case, he agonized so much over God’s plan that he sweat drops of blood. Surrender is hard work. In our case, it is intense warfare against our selfcentered nature.
The blessing of surrender. The Bible is crystal clear about how you benefit when you fully surrender your life to God. First, you experience peace: “Stop quarreling with God! If you agree with him, you will have peace at last, and things will go well for you.” Next, you experience freedom: “Offer yourselves to the ways of God and the freedom never quits. … [his] commands set you free to live openly in his freedom!” Third, you experience God’s power in your life. Stubborn temptations and overwhelming problems can be defeated by Christ when given to him.
As Joshua approached the biggest battle of his life he encountered God, fell in worship before him, and surrendered his plans. That surrender led to a stunning victory at Jericho. This is the paradox: Victory comes through surrender. Surrender doesn’t weaken you; it strengthens you.
Surrendered to God, you don’t have to fear or surrender to anything else. William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, said, “The greatness of a man’s power is in the measure of his surrender.” Surrendered people are the ones God God chose Mary to be the mother Jesus, not because she was talented wealthy or beautiful, but because she was totally surrendered to him. When the angel explained God’s improbable plan, she calmly responded, “I am the Lord’s servant, and I am willing to accept whatever he wants.” Nothing is more powerful than a surrendered life in the hands of God. “So give yourselves completely to God.”
The best way to live. Everybody eventually surrenders to something or some- one. If not to God, you will surrender to the opinions or expectations of others, to money, to resentment, to fear, or to your own pride, lusts, or ego. You were designed to worship God – and if you fail to worship him, you will create other things (idols) to give your life to. You are free to choose what you surrender to, but you are not free from the consequences of that choice. E. Stanley Jones said, “If you don’t surrender to Christ, you surrender to chaos.”
Reflection:
Surrender is not the best way to live, it is the only way to live. Nothing else works.
