A todos nos gusta vernos bien, así que a menudo dedicamos mucho tiempo a hacer lo que podemos para cubrir nuestros defectos y realzar lo más bonito. ¡Queremos estar perfectos! Pero la definición de Dios de la belleza es muy distinta a la del mundo. Reflexionemos sobre esta historia: Dios envió al profeta Samuel a Belén para elegir a uno de los hijos de Isaí para reemplazar al rey Saúl. Cuando Samuel vio al hijo mayor, Eliab, pensó para sus adentros: «Está claro que este es el elegido». Y ahí fue donde Dios le encomendó a Samuel que no se fijara en el aspecto exterior, porque el Señor se fija en el corazón.
¿Qué es bello para Dios? Partimos de la base de que ya le gusta nuestro aspecto; al fin y al cabo, ¡fue él quien nos creó! Lo que para él es bello es un espíritu tierno y sereno. Cuando nos adornemos en amor, gracia y amabilidad, viviremos una verdadera belleza que atraerá a los demás hacia Cristo. ¿Te obsesionas con tu aspecto externo? Pues recuerda que Dios se fija en tu corazón.

Señor, tengo que admitir que me centro demasiado en mi aspecto. Sé que a medida que me parezca más a ti, tu belleza se verá en mí.
Inner Beauty
Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. 1 PETER 3:3-4 NLT
We all want to feel good about how we look, so we often spend time doing what we can to cover the weaknesses and enhance the strengths. We want to be beautiful. But God’s definition of beauty is very different from the world’s. Consider this story: God sent the prophet Samuel to Bethlehem to choose one of Jesse’s sons to replace King Saul. When Samuel saw the oldest, Eliab, he thought, “Surely this is the one.” That’s when God charged Samuel not to look at the outward appearance because the Lord looks at the heart.
What is beautiful to God? We know he already loves what we look like—he created us! What is beautiful to him is a gentle and quiet spirit. As we adorn ourselves with love, graciousness, and kindness, we are living out true beauty that will draw others to Christ. Are you obsessing about your outward appearance? Remember, God is looking at your heart.
Prayer:
Lord, I have to admit that I fuss too much about how I look. I know as I become more like you, your beauty will be seen in me.
