Su nombre significa “la alegría de mi padre”
Tal como varias mujeres de la Biblia, ella es descrita como hermosa; prudente, inteligente, sabia, valiente y respetuosa.

1 Samuel 25:3
Y aquel varón se llamaba Nabal, y su mujer, Abigail. Era aquella mujer de buen entendimiento y de hermosa apariencia, pero el hombre era duro y de malas obras;
Este capítulo nos relata la historia de Nabal (su nombre significa necio), hombre rico y propietario de una hacienda en Carmel, que en vez de ayudar a David y sus hombres quiso hacerles mal, mientras que Abigail su esposa, mujer sabia resuelve ir al encuentro de David y reponer el daño causado.
En 1 Samuel 25:1-13
Vemos a David huyendo del rey Saúl en el desierto de Parán. Sus hombres habían comenzado a cuidar del ganado en los alrededores de su escondite, incluyendo el ganado de Nabal. Cuando llegó el tiempo de la esquila (un tiempo de comida, bebida y fiesta), los hombres de David pidieron una recompensa por haber protegido los animales de este acaudalado hombre. Nabal, sin embargo, se rehusó arrogantemente, insultando y humillando a David y sus hombres, por lo que David se enojó mucho e ideó una venganza en medio de su ira: no quedaría un solo hombre vivo en la casa de Nabal.
Oyéndolo, un atemorizado siervo de Nabal le avisó a Abigail del inminente desastre: ¡había que hacer algo! (v. 14).
Abigail no tardó en darse cuenta de la gravedad del asunto cuando escuchó las palabras del siervo: “Ahora, pues, reflexiona y ve lo que has de hacer, porque el mal está ya resuelto contra nuestro amo y contra toda su casa; pues él es un hombre tan perverso, que no hay quien pueda hablarle” (v. 17).
Abigail no perdió ni un segundo y se apresuró a preparar una ofrenda de paz con la esperanza de aplacar la ofensa: “doscientos panes, dos cueros de vino, cinco ovejas guisadas, cinco medidas de grano tostado, cien racimos de uvas pasas, y doscientos panes de higos secos”, todo cargado en asnos y enviado por adelantado con sus siervos para encontrar a David en el camino (v. 18).
Al ver a David, Abigail inmediatamente se bajó de su montura y se dejó caer a sus pies rogando por compasión. Pidió misericordia respetuosamente, e incluso se ofreció para asumir la culpa de la insensata ofensa de su esposo Nabal. (v.23).
El corazón de David finalmente se ablandó y vio lo disparatados que habían sido sus actos. También reconoció la sabiduría de la petición de Abigail.
1 Samuel 25:32-33
Y dijo David a Abigail: Bendito sea Jehová Dios de Israel, que te envió para que hoy me encontrases. Y bendito sea tu razonamiento, y bendita tú, que me has estorbado hoy de ir a derramar sangre, y a vengarme por mi propia mano.
Abigail no temió ir a remediar el agravio de su esposo Nabal e impedir con su actitud que David se vengara por sus propias manos. Además de eso, le habló con palabras no solo sabias sino proféticas sobre lo que sería su reinado: “Ciertamente, el Señor le dará a usted una dinastía que se mantendrá firme, y nunca nadie podrá hacerle ningún daño, pues usted pelea las batallas del Señor” (v. 28).
El Señor honro a Abigail por su perseverancia y valentía
1 Samuel 25:39
Luego que David oyó que Nabal había muerto, dijo: Bendito sea Jehová, que juzgó la causa de mi afrenta recibida de mano de Nabal, y ha preservado del mal a su siervo; y Jehová ha vuelto la maldad de Nabal sobre su propia cabeza. Después envió David a hablar con Abigail, para tomarla por su mujer.
Abigail es el ejemplo de la mujer virtuosa de Proverbios 31
· Le da ella bien y no de mal todos los días de su vida (v.12)
· Ciñe de fuerzas sus lomos (v.17)
· Se reviste de fuerza y dignidad, y afronta segura el porvenir (v.25)
· Cuando habla lo hace con sabiduría y la ley de clemencia está en su lengua (v.26)
¿Qué más aprendemos de esta historia?
· A manejar las situaciones complicadas con calma, tacto e inteligencia.
· Que Ser prudente muchas veces significa actuar rápido con valentía y humildad para evitar desastres.
· los años con Nabal su esposo (insensato) no volvieron a Abigail amargada, resentida, de mal carácter ni vengativa, ella fue sumisa y supo esperar en Dios.
· Una esposa que vive en el poder del Espíritu Santo puede ser una poderosa influencia sobre un cónyuge impío.
· Promover la paz demuestra la profundidad de nuestra sabiduría

Bienaventurados los pacificadores, porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.
v Como mujeres de reino estamos llamadas a impactar, obrando correctamente, marcando la diferencia aun con las personas hostiles y difíciles de tratar, mostrando un carácter pacífico y conciliador con una actitud noble, sabia y humilde, todas tenemos mucho que aportar en nuestra esfera de influencia, el entorno familiar, la escuela, el trabajo, con los amigos, la Iglesia etc.
Al examinar nuestro andar diario debemos preguntarnos:
¿Soy una mujer con las características de Abigail?
Sabía, prudente, valiente, pacificadora, humilde, respetuosa, sumisa, generosa.
¿O soy una mujer con las actitudes de Nabal?
Necia, arrogante, explosiva, severa, conflictiva, insensible, egoísta, orgullosa.
Salmos 139:23-24
Examíname, oh, Dios, y conoce mi corazón; Pruébame y conoce mis pensamientos; Y ve si hay en mí camino de perversidad, Y guíame en el camino eterno.
Oración:
Amado Señor, gracias por todo lo que nos enseñas a través de Abigail, declaramos que con la ayuda de tu Santo Espíritu vamos a ser transformadas en mujeres de Fe, decididas, pacificadoras, prudentes, guerreras fuertes para ponernos en la brecha para pelear por nuestra familia, hijos, amigos, siendo cada vez más esforzadas y valientes para enfrentar todas las situaciones por muy difíciles que sean sabiendo que tú Señor vas delante de nosotras como poderoso gigante despejando el camino y todo va a estar bien en el nombre de Jesús. ¡Amen!
Abigail
Her name means “the joy of my father”
Like several women in the Bible, she is described as beautiful; prudent, intelligent, wise, brave and respectful.

1 Samuel 25: 3
His name was Nabal and his wife’s name was Abigail. She was an intelligent and beautiful woman, but her husband was surly and mean in his dealings—he was a Calebite.
This chapter tells the story of Nabal (his name means fool), a rich man and owner of a farm in Carmel, who instead of helping David and his men wanted to harm them, while Abigail his wife, a wise woman decides to go to the meet David and repair the damage done.
In 1 Samuel 25: 1-13
We see David fleeing from King Saul in the desert of Paran. His men had begun to tend the cattle around his hideout, including Nabal’s cattle. When the time of shearing came (a time of food, drink, and feast), David’s men asked for a reward for having protected the animals of this wealthy man. Nabal, however, arrogantly refused, insulting and humiliating David and his men, so David became very angry and devised revenge amid his anger: there would not be a single man left alive in the house of Nabal.
Hearing it, a frightened servant of Nabal warned Abigail of the impending disaster: something had to be done! (v. 14).
Abigail did not take long to realize the seriousness of the matter when she heard the words of the servant: “Now, then, reflect and see what you have to do, because the evil has already been resolved against our master and against all his house; for he is such a wicked man that no one can speak to him ”(v. 17).
Abigail didn’t waste a second and hurried to prepare a peace offering in the hope of appeasing the offense: “two hundred loaves, two hides of wine, five stewed sheep, five measures of roasted grain, one hundred bunches of raisins, and two hundred dried fig loaves ”, all loaded on donkeys and sent ahead with his servants to meet David on the road (v. 18).
Upon seeing David, Abigail immediately dismounted from her mount and dropped at her feet begging for compassion. She respectfully asked for mercy, and even offered to take the blame for the senseless offense of her husband Nabal hers. (v.23).
David’s heart finally softened and he saw how crazy his actions had been. He also recognized the wisdom of Abigail’s request.
1 Samuel 25: 32-33
David said to Abigail, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who has sent you today to meet me. May you be blessed for your good judgment and for keeping me from bloodshed this day and from avenging myself with my own hands.
Abigail was not afraid to go and remedy the grievance of her husband Nabal hers and prevent with her attitude that David would take revenge by his own hands. In addition to that, he spoke to him with words not only wise but prophetic about what his reign would be: “Certainly, the Lord will give you a dynasty that will stand firm, and no one will ever be able to do you any harm, for you fight the battles of the Lord ”(v. 28).
The Lord honored Abigail for her perseverance and courage
1 Samuel 25:39
When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Praise be to the Lord, who has upheld my cause against Nabal for treating me with contempt. He has kept his servant from doing wrong and has brought Nabal’s wrongdoing down on his own head.”
Then David sent word to Abigail, asking her to become his wife.
Abigail is the example of the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31
She gives him good and not evil all the days of her life (v.12)
– Gird up her loins with strength (v.17)
· She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she faces the future safely (v.25)
When she speaks she does so with wisdom and the law of mercy is on her tongue (v.26)
What else do we learn from this story?
· She handled complicated situations with calm, tact and intelligence.
· That being prudent often means acting quickly with courage and humility to avoid disasters.
· The years with Nabal her husband (foolish) did not return to Abigail bitter, resentful, of bad character or vindictive, she was submissive and she knew how to hope in God.
· A wife who lives in the power of the Holy Spirit can be a powerful influence on an ungodly spouse.
Promoting peace demonstrates the depth of our wisdom
Matthew 5: 9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
v As women of the kingdom we are called to make an impact, acting correctly, making a difference even with hostile and difficult people to deal with, showing a peaceful and conciliatory character with a noble, wise and humble attitude, we all have much to contribute in our sphere of influence, the family environment, school, work, with friends, the Church etc.
As we examine our daily lives we must ask ourselves:
Am I a woman with the characteristics of Abigail?
Wise, prudent, brave, pacifying, humble, respectful, submissive, generous.
Or am I a woman with Nabal’s attitudes?
Foolish, arrogant, explosive, severe, conflictive, insensitive, selfish, proud.
Psalm 139: 23-24
Search me,God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank you for all that you teach us through Abigail, we declare that with the help of your Holy Spirit we will be transformed into women of Faith, determined, peacemakers, prudent, strong warriors to stand in the gap to fight for our family, children, friends, being more and more effortless and courageous to face all situations, no matter how difficult they may be, knowing that your Lord is going before us like a mighty giant clearing the way and everything will be fine in the name of Jesus. Amen!
