Estando Jesús en Betania, en casa de Simón el leproso, se acercó a El una mujer con un frasco de alabastro de perfume muy costoso, y lo derramó sobre Su cabeza cuando estaba sentado a la mesa. Pero al ver esto, los discípulos se indignaron, y decían: «¿Para qué este desperdicio?…».

¿Cuál es tu posesión más valiosa? ¿El autógrafo de una estrella de los deportes? ¿Una moneda rara? ¿Tu iPhone? ¿Tal vez ese viejo animal de peluche que tienes desde que eras pequeño? ¿Has pensado alguna vez en regalarlo? Quizás tan solo a alguien muy especial. Renunciar a algo que significa tanto resultaría sumamente difícil.
Unos pocos días antes de que Jesús muriera en la cruz por nuestros pecados, cenó con algunos amigos cercanos. Una mujer interrumpió el acto y empezó a derramar un frasco de un perfume carísimo sobre la cabeza de Jesús. Él y sus amigos quedaron impresionados. Pensaron que la mujer estaba siendo derrochadora. Podría haberlo vendido por una gran cantidad de dinero y dárselo a los pobres o usarlo para el ministerio. Sin embargo, aquello no molestó a Jesús en absoluto. Sabía que la mujer le estaba demostrando su amor entregando su mejor regalo.
Decir que amas a alguien es fácil. Mostrar tu amor puede ser más difícil. Una manera de demostrarle al Señor cuánto lo amas consistiría en darle algo a alguien que esté necesitado. ¿Conoces a alguna persona que esté en el hospital o en casa, enfermo y en la cama? ¿Qué me dices de algún amigo que esté triste? Da tus mejores regalos. Puede parecer una locura, pero el amor de Dios es así de loco.
Oración
Señor, quiero estar dispuesto a dar algo que valore a un amigo que esté atravesando un tiempo difícil. Tal vez mis amigos no lo entiendan, pero yo sé que te hará feliz a ti y que será una demostración de amor.
Day 166 • Crazy Love
While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked.

What’s the most valuable thing you own? An autograph from a sports star? A rare coin? Your iPhone? Maybe it’s that old stuffed animal you’ve had since you were a toddler. Would you ever think of giving that away? Probably only to someone very special. Surrendering something that means so much would be hard to do.
Just a few days before Jesus died on the cross for our sins, he had dinner with some close friends. A woman interrupted the meal and started pouring a bottle of very expensive perfume on Jesus’ head. Jesus’ friends were shocked. They thought the woman was being wasteful. She could have sold it for lots of money and given it to the poor or used it for ministry. But Jesus wasn’t bothered by it at all. He knew the woman was showing her love for him by giving her best gift.
Saying you love someone is easy. Showing your love can be more difficult. One way to show the Lord how much you love him is by giving something to someone in need. Do you know anyone in the hospital or home sick in bed? How about a friend who is sad? Give away your best gifts. It may seem crazy, but God’s love is crazy like that.
Prayer
Lord, I want to be willing to give something I value to a friend who is going through a hard time. My friends might not understand, but I know it will make you happy and show love.
