Dios llama a algunos para que sean líderes de la iglesia, como los pastores, los ancianos o los maestros. Cuando les pide a las personas que dediquen su vida a trabajar en una iglesia o en un ministerio especial, Dios solicita a otros cristianos que cuiden de esos líderes. Esta idea comenzó hace muchos años en Israel. Dios llamó a la tribu de los levitas para que fueran los sacerdotes, que equivalía a ser pastor. Ellos se ocupaban del tabernáculo, enseñaban a otros y realizaban los sacrificios. Llegar a ser sacerdote era algo que requería mucho tiempo. No tenían tiempo para cultivar ni para ganarse la vida fuera de la iglesia. De modo que Dios ordenó a las demás tribus que compartieran su tierra y su comida con los levitas.
No todos los líderes de hoy son voluntarios y no reciben un sueldo. Como tus maestros de la escuela, tus entrenadores y el presidente, la mayoría de los pastores y de los líderes de la iglesia reciben un salario por hacer su trabajo. Day 165 • Who’s in Charge?
Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel at Shiloh in Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”

Think of someone you admire. You might look up to a teacher, a team captain, a pastor, or the president. Leaders teach, give advice, solve problems, and use wisdom to make decisions. They help others. They always think about others.
God calls some people to be leaders in the church, such as pastors, elders, or teachers. When God asks people to dedicate their lives to working In a church or special ministry, God asks other Christians to take care of those leaders. This idea started many years ago in Israel. God called the tribe of Levites to be the priests, which was like being a pastor. They took care of the tabernacle, taught others, and conducted the sacrifices. Being a priest required a lot of time. They didn’t have time to grow crops or earn a living outside of the church. So God told the other tribes to share their land and food with the Levites.
Not every leader today is a volunteer who doesn’t get paid. Like your schoolteachers, coaches, and the president, most pastors and church leaders get paid to do their jobs. But God still wants you to show love and support to the leaders in your church. Ask you mom or dad how your family can do that.

Lord, my pastor and small group teachers are leaders, but I don’t think about how I can support them. As a kid, what can I do to care for my leaders?
