Todos los jefes del país, y el pueblo en general, se alegraron y llevaron sus ofrendas al cofre hasta llenarlo… El rey y Joiadá les daban el dinero a los encargados de las reparaciones del templo, y éstos les pagaban a los albañiles y carpinteros, y a los que trabajaban el hierro y el bronce para reparar el templo de Dios.

Has ahorrado tu asignación durante meses para comprarte esa asombrosa tableta nueva. Pero cuando el domingo llega, te pasan el plato de la ofrenda. Tu madre te llama la atención con el codo. ¿De verdad tienes que entregar tu dinero?
Las iglesias necesitan dinero, porque así como ocurre en las casas, las cosas se rompen y se gastan. Las personas que trabajan en la iglesia, como los pastores y los conserjes, tienen que comer. ¡Y todas esas cosas cuestan dinero!
El templo de Dios en la Biblia no era diferente. En realidad, cuando Joás era rey, el templo fue destrozado por completo. De modo que él, junto con Joiadá, el sacerdote, colocaron un cofre para el dinero delante de las puertas del templo. Las personas llevaron con alegría sus contribuciones hasta que hubo lo suficiente para repararlo y restaurarlo.
¿Lo has oído bien? ¡Hombres y mujeres dieron con alegría! Sabían que nunca podrían dar tanto a Dios como para quedar totalmente despojados. Él siempre se ocuparía de ellos y bendeciría sus ofrendas.
Esperamos que los pilares de tu iglesia no se estén desmoronando como los del templo. A pesar de ello, el Señor nos sigue llamando a dar como los israelitas. ¿Ofrendarás con renuencia o con alegría?
Oración
Señor, todo lo que poseo te pertenece a ti, incluida mi hucha. ¿Cambiarás mi corazón para que en lugar de aferrarme a ella, dé con alegría cuando así tú me lo pidas?
Day 164 • Glad Giving
All the officials and all the people brought their contributions gladly, dropping them into the chest until it was full…. The king and Jehoiada gave it to those who carried out the work required for the temple of the LORD. They hired masons and carpenters to restore the LORD’S temple, and also workers in iron and bronze to repair the temple.

You’ve saved your allowance for months to buy that awesome new tablet. But when Sunday rolls around, so does that offering plate. Your mom gives you a gentle nudge. Do you really have to hand over your money?
Churches need money because just like at home, things break and wear out. People who work at the church, like the pastors and janitors, need to eat. All those things cost money!
God’s temple in the Bible was no different. In fact, when Joash was king, the temple was totally trashed. So Joash, along with Jehoida the priest, placed a money chest in front of the temple gates. Then people brought contributions gladly until they had enough to repair and restore the temple.
Did you catch that? The men and women gave gladly! They knew that they could never give so much to God that they wound up strapped. He would always take care of them and bless their offerings.
Hopefully, your church’s pillars aren’t crumbling like the temple’s. Yet the Lord still calls us to give like the Israelites. Will you give reluctantly or gladly?
Prayer
Jesus, everything I own belongs to you, including my piggy bank. Will you change my heart from holding on tightly to gladly giving when you ask me to?
