La muchedumbre sentada a su alrededor le dijo: «Tu madre, tus hermanos y tus hermanas están allí afuera, y te buscan»… Miró entonces a los que estaban sentados a su alrededor, y dijo: «Mi madre y mis hermanos están aquí. Porque todo el que hace la voluntad de Dios es mi hermano, y mi hermana, y mi madre».

Jesús es tu hermano mayor. Tú eres su hermana o su hermano.
En esta escena de Marcos 3 a uno le podría preocupar que la familia de Jesús hubiera podido escucharle decir: «¿Quién son mi madre y mis hermanos?». Sin duda habrían pensado: «¿De veras? ¿Y nosotros qué somos entonces? ¿Un cero a la izquierda?».
Sin embargo, hay algo importante que debemos conocer sobre Jesús que nos ayuda a comprender esta escena familiar. Él es amor. Su familia sabía que él la amaba. Había crecido con ellos. Tenían una relación sólida. Jesús no estaba ofendiendo a su familia y ellos lo sabían. Estaba edificando a las personas sentadas allí, ante su presencia. Les estaba diciendo que al escogerle a él, haciendo su voluntad y llamándose seguidores de Cristo, no eran solamente parte de una congregación. No eran miembros de un club de admiradores popular. Eran verdaderamente parte de su familia.
Y nosotros también. Somos una familia con el Salvador del mundo. Él es nuestro hermano mayor con todos los mejores rasgos de un hermano mayor: fuerte, protector, amoroso, juguetón, amable y bueno. Así es tu Jesús.
Oración:
Jesús, ¡qué asombroso pensamiento! Eres ciertamente mi familia. Mi hermano. Cuando las cosas se ponen difíciles, recuérdame que soy tu hermana (o tu hermano), que me amas y que me protegerás. Gracias.
Day 147 • Big Bro
A crowd was sitting around [Jesus], and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.” “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”
(MARK 3:324−35)
Jesus is your big brother. You are his sister or his brother. In this scene from Mark 3, you might be concerned about Jesus’ family if they overheard him saying, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” They might have thought, “Seriously! What are we? Chopped liver?”
But there’s something important to know about Jesus that makes this family scene understandable. He is love. His family knew that he loved them. He’d grown up with them. Their relationships were solid. Jesus wasn’t offending his family, and they knew it. He was building up the people sitting in his presence. He was letting them know that by choosing him, doing his will, and calling themselves followers of Christ, they weren’t just part of a congregation. They weren’t in a cool fan club. They were truly part of his family.
And so are we. We are family with the Savior of the world. He is our big brother with all the best big brother traits: strong, protective, loving, playful, kind, and good. That’s your Jesus.
Prayer:
Jesus, what an amazing thought! You truly are my family. My brother. When things get tough, remind me that I’m your sister/ brother, that you love me, and that you will protect me. Thank you.
