Durante años me pregunté por qué la Gran Comisión de Jesús le asignaba tanta relevancia al bautismo, tanta importancia, Como a las grandes tareas de la evangelización y la edificación. ¿Por qué es tan importante el bautismo? Pero entonces me di cuenta de que el bautismo simboliza el segundo propósito de Dios para nuestra vida:
La participación en la comunión de la familia eterna de Dios.
El bautismo está lleno de significado.
Con él declaramos nuestra fe y compariimos la sepultura y la resurrección de Cristo, representa nuestra muerte a la vieja Vida y anuncia nuestra nueva existencia En Cristo. También es una celebración de Nuestra incorporación a la familia de Dios.
El bautismo es la representación física de una verdad espiritual. Simboliza lo que sucedió en el momento cuando Dios nos adoptó en su familia: “Todos fuimos bautizados por un solo Espíritu para constituir un solo cuerpo -ya seamos judío o gentiles, esclavos o libres”. Todos recibimos el mismo espíritu.
El bautismo no nos convierte en miembros de la familia de Dios; eso es posible solo mediante la fe en Cristo. El bautismo es una muestra de que somos Parte de esa Familia. Es como el anillo de bodas: una Señal visible de un compromiso interno hecho en el corazón. Es un acto de iniciación, no algo que podamos postergar hasta que nos consideremos espiritualmente maduros. La única condición bíblica es que hay que creer.
En el Nuevo Testamento, la gente se bautizaba enseguida, después de haber creido. En Pentecostés, el mismo día que aceptaron a Cristo se bautizaron tres mil personas. En otra ocasión, un líder etiope se bautizó en el mismo lugar donde se convirtió, y Pablo y Silas bautizaron al carcelero de Filipos y a su familia a medianoche.
Los bautismos no se dejaban para otro momento en el Nuevo Testamento. Si todavía no te has bautizado como expresión de tu fe en Cristo, hazlo tan pronto como sea posible, como Jesús lo mandó.
Ser incluido en la familia de Dios es el más alto honor y privilegio que jamás recibirás.
El privilegio más grande de la vida la Palabra de Dios declara: <Jesús y el pueblo que santificó pertenecemos a la misma familia; por lo tanto, Jesús no se avergüenza de llamarnos hermanos y hermanas>. Permite que esta espléndida verdad se te grabe a fondo. Eres parte de la familia de Dios y, como Jesús te santificó,
Dios está orgulloso de ti! Las palabras de Jesús son indiscutibles: <Señalando a sus Discípulos [Jesús] añadió: “Aquí tienen a mi madre y a mis hermanos. Pues mi hermano, mi hermana y mi madre son los que hacen la voluntad de mi Padre que está en el cielo”>.
Ser incluido en la familia de Dios es el más alto honor y privilegio que jamás recibirás.
No hay nada que se le parezca. Cuando te sientas inseguro, o que no eres importante, o que nadie te quiere, recuerda a quién perteneces.

God’s unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure.
EPHESIANS 1:5 (NLT)
For years I wondered why Jesus’ Great Commission gives the same prominence to baptism as it does to the great tasks of evangelism and edification. Why is baptism so important? Then I realized it is because
It symbolizes God’s second purpose for your life: participating in the fellowship of God’s eternal family.
Baptism is pregnant with meaning. Your baptism declares your faith, shares Christ’s burial and resurrection, symbolizes your death to your old life, and announces your new life in Christ. It is also a celebration of your inclusion in God’s family.
Your baptism Is a physical picture of a spiritual truth. It represents what happened the moment God brought you into his family: “Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into Christ’s body by one Spirit, and we have all received the same Spirit.”
Baptism doesn’t make you a member of God’s family; only faith in Christ does that. Baptism shows you are part of God’s family. Like a wedding ring, it is a visible reminder of an inward commitment made in your heart. It is an act of initiation, not something you put off until you are spiritually mature. The only biblical condition is that you believe.
Being included in God’s family is the highest honor and the greatest privilege you will ever receive.
In the New Testament, people were baptized as soon as they believed. At Pentecost, 3,000 were baptized the same day they accepted Christ. Elsewhere, an Ethiopian leader was baptized on the spot when he was converted, and Paul and Silas baptized a Philippian jailer and his family at midnight. There are no delayed baptisms in the New Testament. If you haven’t been baptized as an expression of your faith in Christ, do so as soon as possible, as Jesus commanded.
Life’s Greatest Privilege
The Bible says, “Jesus and the people he makes holy all belong to the same family. That is why he isn’t ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.” Let that amazing truth sink in. You are a part of God’s family, and because Jesus makes you holy, God is proud of you! The words of Jesus are unmistakable: “[Jesus] pointed to his disciples and said, ‘These are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!’ ” Being included in God’s family is the highest honor and the greatest privilege you will ever receive. Nothing else comes close. Whenever you feel unimportant, unloved, or insecure, remember to whom you belong.
