¿Cómo podemos alabar a Dios cuando no entendemos lo que pasa en nuestra vida y él calla? ¿Cómo mantener el vínculo en medio de una crisis si no hay comunicación? ¿Cómo mantener la vista en Jesús cuando nuestros ojos están llenos de lágrimas? Hagamos lo que hizo Job: «Se dejó caer al suelo en actitud de adoración. Entonces dijo: “Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre, y desnudo he de partir. El Señor ha dado; el Señor ha quitado. ¡Bendito sea el nombre del Señor!”».
Cuéntale a Dios exactamente cómo te sientes. Derrama tu corazón ante Dios. Descarga todas tus emociones y sentimientos. Job lo hizo cuando dijo: ¡No guardaré silencio! Estoy enojado y amargado. ¡Tengo que hablar! Cuando Dios parecía distante, añoraba: «¡Qué días aquellos, cuando yo estaba en mi apogeo y Dios bendecía mi casa con su íntima amistad!». Dios puede encargarse de las dudas, el enojo, el temor, el dolor, la confusión y las preguntas que tengas.
¿Sabes que reconocer tu desesperanza ante Dios puede ser una afirmación de fe? Es posible confiar en Dios y sentirse afligido al mismo tiempo. David escribió: «Aunque digo: “Me encuentro muy afligido”, sigo creyendo en Dios». Puede parecer una contradicción: ¡Confío en Dios, pero estoy destrozado! La franqueza de David en realidad revela una profunda fe. En primer lugar, creía en Dios. Segundo, creía que Dios escuchaba su oración. Tercero, creía que Dios le permitiría decir lo que sentía y lo seguiría amando.
Concéntrate en quién es Dios, en su naturaleza inmutable. A pesar de las circunstancias y de los sentimientos, depende del carácter inmutable de Dios. Recuerda las verdades eternas de Dios: Él es bueno, me ama, está conmigo, sabe lo que me pasa, se interesa en mí, tiene un plan para mi vida. V. Raymond Edman dijo: «Nunca dudes en la oscuridad de lo que Dios te dijo en la luz».
Cuando la vida de Job se desmoronó y Dios mantuvo silencio, Job todavía encontró motivos para alabar a Dios:
• Él es bueno y amoroso.
• Él es todopoderoso.
• Él conoce todos los detalles de mi vida.
• Él tiene el control.
• Él tiene un plan para mi vida.
• Él me salvará.
Confía en que Dios cumplirá sus promesas. Durante las épocas de sequía espiritual debemos depender pacientemente de las promesas de Dios y no de nuestras emociones; debemos reconocer que nos está conduciendo a un grado más profundo de madurez. Una amistad basada en las emociones es, sin duda, superficial.
No te preocupes por tus preocupaciones. El carácter de Dios no cambia con las circunstancias. La gracia de Dios todavía tiene toda su fuerza; él todavía está de tu lado, aunque no lo sientas. Cuando Job sintió la ausencia de Dios, siguió dependiendo de su Palabra: «No me he apartado de los mandamientos de sus labios; en lo más profundo de mi ser he atesorado las palabras de su boca».
Gracias a que confiaba en la Palabra de Dios, Job pudo mantenerse fiel, aunque nada parecía tener sentido. Su fe era fuerte en medio del dolor: «Dios podrá matarme, pero todavía confiaré en él».
Adoras a Dios de una manera más profunda cuando mantienes tu confianza en él a pesar de que sientas que te ha abandonado.

DAY 14/Third part • When God Seems Distant
I will never leave you nor forsake you. JOSHUA 1:5 (NIV)
Yes, he wants you to sense his presence, but he’s more concerned that you trust him than that you feel him. Faith, not feelings, pleases God.
The situations that will stretch your faith most will be those times when life falls apart and God is nowhere to be found. This happened to Job. On a single day he lost everything — his family, his business, his health, and everything he owned. Most discouraging — for thirty-seven chapters, God said nothing!
How do you praise God when you don’t understand what’s happening in your life and God is silent? How do you stay connected in a crisis without communication? How do you keep your eyes on Jesus when they’re full of tears? You do what Job did: “Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.’ ”
Tell God exactly how you feel. Pour out your heart to God. Unload every emotion that you’re feeling. Job did this when he said, “I can’t be quiet! I am angry and bitter. I have to speak!” He cried out when God seemed distant: “Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God’s intimate friendship blessed my house.” God can handle your doubt, anger, fear, grief, confusion, and questions.
Did you know that admitting your hopelessness to God can be a statement of faith? Trusting God but feeling despair at the same time, David wrote, “I believed, so I said, ‘I am completely ruined!’ ” This sounds like a contradiction: I trust God, but I’m wiped out! David’s frankness actually reveals deep faith: First, he believed in God. Second, he believed God would listen to his prayer. Third, he believed God would let him say what he felt and still love him.
Focus on who God is — his unchanging nature. Regardless of circumstances and how you feel, hang on to God’s unchanging character. Remind yourself what you know to be eternally true about God: He is good, he loves me, he is with me, he knows what I’m going through, he cares, and he has a good plan for my life. V. Raymond Edman said, “Never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light.”
When Job’s life fell apart, and God was silent, Job still found things he could praise God for:
• That he is good and loving.
• That he is all-powerful.
• That he notices every detail of my life.
• That he is in control.
• That he has a plan for my life. • That he will save me.
Trust God to keep his promises. During times of spiritual dryness you must patiently rely on the promises of God, not your emotions, and realize that he is taking you to a deeper level of maturity. A friendship based on emotion is shallow indeed.
So don’t be troubled by trouble. Circumstances cannot change the character of God. God’s grace is still in full force; he is still for you, even when you don’t feel it. In the absence of confirming circumstances, Job held on to God’s Word. He said, “I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.”
This trust in God’s Word caused Job to remain faithful even though nothing made sense. His faith was strong in the midst of pain: “God may kill me, but still I will trust him.”
When you feel abandoned by God yet continue to trust him in spite of your feelings, you worship him in the deepest way.
