Durante miles de años las personas han mantenido calendarios. Sin embargo, los hombres y las mujeres de la antigüedad no planeaban su tiempo mediante computadoras o teléfonos inteligentes, como lo hacemos nosotros. En su lugar, contaban las horas según la posición de las sombras en un reloj antiguo llamado reloj solar. Luego, contaban los días entre las lunas llenas y observaban las estrellas para determinar la estación del año.
Del mismo modo que nuestros ancestros, queremos saber lo que viene. ¡Y por una buena razón! Sin calendarios llegaríamos tarde a las pruebas atléticas y las clases de arte.
Es bueno pensar con antelación. A esto llamamos sabia preparación. Y es divertido soñar con el futuro. No obstante, toda la planificación del mundo no puede cambiar una cosa: No tienes la última palabra sobre el desarrollo de tus días, meses y años.
Como Regidor del universo, Dios es el calendario supremo. Él sabe con exactitud lo que va a ocurrirte hoy, el mes próximo, y hasta dentro de cincuenta años. A veces esto no encaja precisamente con nuestros planes.
Afortunadamente, Dios es más poderoso que cualquier cosa que pudiéramos planear, y su amor siempre llega a tiempo. ¿Confiarás tus días y tus meses al Creador que conoce todo?
Oración:
Gracias, Señor, por «dirigir mis pasos». Recuérdame que ore y hable de mis planes y mis sueños contigo de ahora en adelante, en vez de intentar hacerlo todo yo solo.
Day 17 • What’s Your Plan?
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps. (PROVERBS 16:9)
For thousands of years, people have kept calendars. Ancient men and women didn’t plan their time with computers or smart phones like we do, though. Instead, they counted hours by tracking shadows around an early kind of clock called a sundial. Then, they counted days between full moons and watched the stars to determine the time of year.
Just like our ancestors, we still want to know what’s coming. And for good reason! Without calendars, we would be late for try-outs and art classes.
It’s great to think ahead of time. That’s called wise preparation. And it’s fun to dream about your future. Yet all the planning in the world can’t change one thing: You don’t have the final say in how your days, months, and years go.
As the Ruler of the universe, God is the ultimate calendar. God knows exactly what’s going to happen to you today, next month, and even fifty years from now. Sometimes that doesn’t match up exactly with your plans.
Thankfully, God is more powerful than anything we could plan, and his love is always on time. Will you trust your days and months to your all-knowing Creator?
Prayer:
Thanks, Lord, for “establishing my steps.” Remind me to pray and talk about my plans and dreams with you from now on, instead of trying to do it all myself.
