¿Qué pensaba Jesús al retrasar su regreso a Betania, permitiendo así que Lázaro sucumbiera a la muerte? ¿Qué era tan importante que estaba dispuesto a que María y Marta experimentaran la agonía de ver morir a su hermano? La respuesta a esta pregunta nos permite comprender mejor el carácter de Dios.
Desde el principio, el objetivo de Jesús no era causar dolor o angustia emocional a Lázaro, María o Marta. Por el contrario, los propósitos de Cristo eran dar gloria a Dios y ayudar a otros a creer en la vida eterna que les estaba ofreciendo. Para Él, esa oportunidad de mostrar en público el poder de Dios y enseñar a otros acerca de su futura crucifixión y resurrección valía la pena.
Recuerda esto cuando sufras: existen circunstancias difíciles que experimentarás por la razón expresa de revelar la gloria del Señor y el plan de salvación a aquellos que te observan. Tu angustia temporal puede ser difícil, pero el sufrimiento de un alma separada de Dios por la eternidad es insondable. Cobra ánimo sabiendo que la diferencia que el Salvador puede hacer a través de tu humilde obediencia puede ser eterna, y eso siempre vale la pena.
Prayer
Jesús, que en cada situación, brillen tu verdad y tu gloria a través de mí, para que otros puedan conocerte como Salvador. Amén.
Eternal Purposes
“I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe.”

What did Jesus have in mind by delaying His return to Bethany, thus allowing Lazarus to succumb to death? What was so important that He was willing for Mary and Martha to experience the agony of watching their brother die? The answer to that question gives us a great deal of insight into the character of God.
From the very beginning, Jesus’ objective was not to cause Lazarus, Mary, or Martha pain or emotional anguish. On the contrary, Christ’s goals were to bring glory to God and to help others to believe in the eternal life He was providing. To Him, this opportunity to publicly display the power of God and teach others about His coming crucifixion and resurrection was worth it.
Remember this when you suffer. There are difficult circumstances you will experience for the express reason of revealing the Lord’s glory and plan of salvation to those watching you. Your temporary anguish may be difficult, but the suffering of a soul eternally separated from God is unfathomable. Take heart knowing that the difference the Savior can make through your humble obedience can be eternal—and that’s always worthwhile.

Jesus, in every situation, shine Your truth and glory through me, that others may know You as Savior. Amen.
