Los mayores mandamientos de Dios son amarle a él y amarnos unos a otros. Amarle a él puede ser fácil; al fin y al cabo, él es paciente y amoroso. Pero la segunda parte de su mandamiento puede ser complicada, porque implica amar a esos vecinos entrometidos de la barbacoa del barrio, a nuestros primos odiosos en la cena de Navidad, a ese dependiente maleducado en el supermercado o a esos invitados insoportables que deberían haberse ido hace ya tres horas.
Amarnos unos a otros solo es posible cuando amamos como Dios. Cuando intentamos amar desde nuestra humanidad, el pecado nos lo impide. Obedecer el mandamiento de amar empieza con el amor de Dios. Cuando advertimos lo espectacular que es su amor por nosotros, cuando vemos lo inmerecido, lo inacabable y lo incondicional que es, nos conmovemos porque no lo merecemos.
Oración:
Señor, ayúdame a ser tu representante en este mundo. Sé que no es fácil, pero quiero seguir tu ejemplo y amar como tú lo hiciste. Dame la gracia y las fuerzas necesarias para esto.
He Is Love
We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 1 JOHN 4:19-20 ESV
God’s greatest commandments are to love him and to love one another. Loving him may come easy; after all, he is patient and loving himself. But the second part of his command can be difficult because it means loving intrusive neighbors at the backyard barbecue, offensive cousins at Christmas dinner, rude cashiers at the grocery store check-out, and insufferable guests who have stayed one night too many in the guestroom.
Loving one another is only possible when we love like God. When we love out of our humanity, sin gets in the way. Obeying the command to love begins with God’s love. When we realize how great his love is for us—how undeserved, unending, and unconditional—we are humbled because we didn’t earn it.
Prayer:
Lord, help me represent you to the world. I know it’s not easy, but I want to follow your example and love as you did. Give me the grace and strength I need to carry this out.
