¿Cómo puedo honrar mejor a mi mamá y a mi papá? ¿Alguna vez has desobedecido a tus padres? Tal vez rompiste el toque de queda, te escapaste para ver a tus amigos cuando deberías haber estado haciendo tu tarea, o te escapaste mientras estabas castigado. Piense en un momento en el que los desobedeció y ellos se enteraron. ¿Cómo te castigaron? ¿Te castigaron nuevamente con reglas aún más estrictas? Ahora piensa en cómo reaccionaste cuando te castigaron. ¿Estabas enojado? ¿Golpeaste la puerta de tu habitación?
La Biblia dice que honres a tu padre y a tu madre para que puedas vivir la larga vida que Dios te está dando. Eso significa tomar cada interacción con tus padres con calma y hacer todo lo que te digan, de buena gana, sin importar cómo te sientas al respecto. Las cosas serán más fáciles para ti y tus padres si puedes discutir las cosas con calma, incluso si no estás de acuerdo con las reglas que tienen para ti. Mientras vivas bajo su techo, debes escucharlos. Esto no sólo los honra a ellos, sino que también honra a Dios. Si tienes problemas para honrar a tus padres, pídele a Dios que te muestre maneras de honrarlos.
La próxima vez que te sientas tentado a desobedecer a tus padres, intenta decir esta oración: “Señor, por favor ayúdame a encontrar mejores maneras de honrar a mis padres y a ti”.
Disobeying My Parents
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12
How can I honor my mom and dad better? Have you ever disobeyed your parents?
Maybe you broke curfew, snuck out to see your friends when you should have been doing your homework, or snuck out while you were grounded. Think back to a time when you disobeyed them, and they found out about it. How did they punish you? Did you get grounded again with even stricter rules? Now think about how you reacted to them grounding you. Were you angry? Did you slam the door to your room?
The Bible says to honor your father and mother so you may live the long life that God is giving you. That means taking every interaction with your parents in stride and doing whatever they tell you to do, willingly, no matter how you may feel about it. It will make things easier for you and your parents if you can discuss things calmly, even if you disagree with the rules they have for you. As long as you live under their roof, you should listen to them. This not only honors them, but it also honors God. If you’re having trouble honoring your parents, ask God to show you ways to honor them.
The next time you’re tempted to disobey your parents, try saying this prayer instead: “Lord, please help me find better ways to honor my parents and you.”
