En esto consiste el amor: en que pongamos en práctica sus mandamientos. Y éste es el mandamiento: que vivan en este amor, tal como ustedes lo han escuchado desde el principio.
2 JUAN 1:6 (NVI)
LA VIDA CONSISTE EN AMAR.
Como Dios es amor, la lección más importante que quiere que aprendamos en esta tierra es cómo amar. El amor es el fundamento de todos los mandamientos que nos ha dado, porque cuando amamos, somos más semejantes a él: «Porque la ley se resume en este mandamiento: “Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo”».
Aprender a amar desinteresadamente no es una tarea sencilla. Es contraria a nuestra naturaleza egocéntrica. Por eso contamos con toda una vida para aprender a amar. Por supuesto, Dios quiere que amemos a todos, pero está particularmente interesado en que aprendamos a amar a los miembros de su familia. Como ya hemos visto, este es el segundo propósito para tu vida. Pedro nos dice que «debemos mostrar un amor especial por el pueblo de Dios». Pablo se hace eco de este sentimiento: «Por lo tanto, siempre que tengamos la oportunidad, hagamos bien a todos, y en especial a los de la familia de la fe».
¿Por qué insiste Dios en que demos un amor especial y les prestemos atención a otros creyentes? ¿Por qué ellos tienen prioridad en el amor? Porque Dios quiere que su familia sea fundamentalmente conocida por el amor que se manifiesten entre sí. Jesús dijo que el amor de los unos a los otros, y no nuestras creencias doctrinales, sería nuestro mayor testimonio al mundo. Dijo: «De este modo todos sabrán que son mis discípulos, si se aman los unos a los otros».
En el cielo disfrutaremos de la familia de Dios para siempre, pero primero tenemos que realizar un trabajo difícil en la tierra, como preparación para una eternidad de amor. Dios nos entrena dándonos «responsabilidades familiares» y la principal es que practiquemos amarnos unos a otros.
Él quiere que tengas una comunión estrecha y regular con otros creyentes para desarrollar la práctica del amor. El amor no puede aprenderse en aislamiento. Necesitas estar rodeado de personas: insoportables, imperfectas y molestas. Gracias a la comunión podemos aprender tres verdades importantes.

La vida consiste en amar. Como Dios es amor, la lección más importante que quiere que aprendamos en esta tierra es cómo amar.

Love means living the way God commanded us to live. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is this: Live a life of love.
2 JOHN 1:6 (NCV)
LIFE IS ALL ABOUT LOVE.
Because God is love, the most important lesson he wants you to learn on earth is how to love. It is in loving that we are most like him, so love is the foundation of every command he has given us: “The whole Law can be summed up in this one command: ‘Love others as you love yourself.’ ”
Learning to love unselfishly is not an easy task. It runs counter to our self-centered nature. That’s why we’re given a lifetime to learn it. Of course, God wants us to love everyone, but he is particularly concerned that we learn to love others in his family. As we have already seen, this is the second purpose for your life. Peter tells us, “Show special love for God’s people.” Paul echoes this sentiment: “When we have the opportunity to help anyone, we should do it. But we should give special attention to those who are in the family of believers.”
Why does God insist that we give special love and attention to other believers? Why do they get priority in loving? Because God wants his family to be known for its love more than anything else. Jesus said our love for each other — not our doctrinal beliefs — is our greatest witness to the world. He said, “Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
In heaven we will enjoy God’s family forever, but first we have some tough work to do here on earth to prepare ourselves for an eternity of loving. God trains us by giving us “family responsibilities,” and the foremost of these is to practice loving each other.
God wants you to be in regular, close fellowship with other believers so you can develop the skill of loving. Love cannot be learned in isolation. You have to be around people — irritating, imperfect, frustrating people. Through fellowship we learn three important truths.

Life is all about love. Because God is love, the most important lesson he wants you to learn on earth is how to love.
